I went into Osmosis expecting a standard BL, but James and Nic’s story completely wrecked me. Their reunion scene had me bawling, and the way James slowly finds his voice again through Nic’s love is just beautiful. Yes, the production is rough around the edges, but the raw emotion makes up for it. My heart.

I admire the intent to highlight disabilities, but Osmosis tries to cram too many characters and issues into 14 episodes. The DID subplot feels rushed and the suicide scene comes out of nowhere. Also, the lighting in action scenes is terrible—literally can’t see what’s happening. Good acting, but the script needed more editing.

I’m here for Paolo and Dave! Their side story was sweet and honestly more interesting than the main couple at times. Kiel Aguilar is stunning, and the stutter rep felt genuine. Wish they had more screen time, but I’ll take what I can get. The jealousy drama was a bit forced, though.

The cinematography is the weakest link. So many scenes are underlit—especially the night attack—and continuity errors like the bandage switching arms pulled me out of the story. The color grading is flat too. That said, the actors’ facial expressions are powerful; they deserved a better visual presentation.

Osmosis gets points for putting disability at the center and for showing a mute lead who isn’t infantilized. But James’s stalking of Nic is framed as romantic without addressing consent, and the forgiveness of the abuser is handled too easily. It’s a step forward for representation but still has problematic tropes.
