In the quiet, rigid world of a South Korean church, devout young believer Yoo Han lives a life of prayer and devotion, seeking solace from his lonely existence. When charismatic newcomer Joo Won arrives, Yoo Han’s carefully controlled world begins to unravel. He feels an intense, forbidden attraction that clashes violently with the doctrine he holds sacred. As Yoo Han prays fervently to deny his desire, he finds himself drawn deeper into a tense dance of temptation and guilt. This intimate short film captures the raw emotional turmoil of a man torn between his faith and his heart, exploring the painful question of whether love can ever be reconciled with religious conviction. With haunting visuals and a simmering atmosphere, *Original Sin* is a poignant, thought-provoking meditation on internalized shame and the struggle for self-acceptance.

I was completely drawn into Yoo Han's struggle. The chemistry between the leads is electric, and that single kiss scene broke my heart and mended it at the same time. It's not a fluffy romance, but the raw yearning is so beautifully acted. I just wish it were longer so we could see them find some happiness.

The acting is solid and the cinematography is moody, but the plot feels incomplete. Joo Won's character is too one-dimensionally predatory, and the ending loops back to the same cycle of prayer without any real character growth. I appreciate the attempt at nuance, but it left me feeling frustrated rather than enlightened.

Visually, this short film is a masterpiece. The shift from Yoo Han's white clothes to dark, the cold lighting of the church, and the serpent nightmare imagery—every frame is deliberate and evocative. The director uses color and shadow to mirror the character's descent into 'sin.' It's a feast for the eyes that elevates the simple story.

This film is an important, if painful, look at how religious institutions can weaponize shame against LGBTQ+ individuals. I appreciate that it doesn't offer a neat resolution, because that's often the reality. However, I worry that some viewers might misinterpret the message as endorsing the 'sin' narrative rather than critiquing it. Worth a watch with a critical eye.
