When transfer student Ah Nam arrives at his new school, he is haunted by a strange and vivid nightmare that has plagued him for a decade. His isolated world shifts when he meets Chang Ru Hao, a charismatic and protective classmate who becomes determined to unravel the mystery behind Ah Nam's recurring terror. As Ru Hao delves deeper, he discovers that his own family is hiding dark secrets tied to supernatural forces and a past tragedy. Together, the two young men navigate a dangerous labyrinth of spirit possession, buried family history, and a growing bond that defies explanation. *Oppressive Love* is a taut Chinese BL thriller that blends romance with supernatural suspense, offering a refreshing take on gay romance where identity is rarely questioned—but survival is. I really liked this. It's so refreshing to see a gay romance where being gay isn't a big deal – they get together fast and their interactions feel so natural. I just wish we had more kisses or touches, but the one we got was great. The mystery part was a bit messy but still watchable. Definitely an enjoyable little film with charming characters.

Finally a BL with proper, athletic young men who aren't afraid to fight and play sports! The acting is above average, especially Ryan Yuan as Chang Ru Hao – his charisma is magnetic. I expected more mystery throughout, but the balance of romance and action kept me engaged. Really refreshing stuff.

The romance is sweet, I'll give it that. But the mystery plot is full of holes – the nightmare backstory is never fully explained and the resolution feels rushed. The supernatural elements are underdeveloped. If you're here purely for the couple, you'll enjoy it; if you want a tight thriller, look elsewhere.

Visually, this film impressed me. The moody lighting and shadow play during the nightmare sequences are gorgeous, and the camera work captures the romantic tension beautifully. The plot could have been tighter, but the cinematography elevates the experience. A solid watch for fans of artfully shot BL.

I appreciate the attempt at a supernatural romance, but the power dynamics bothered me. Ru Hao inserts himself into Ah Nam's trauma without much consent – he just decides to 'help.' The possession subplot also brushes over some psychologically intense themes without proper care. Not my cup of tea, but I see why others enjoy the chemistry.
