One Summer Night captures a fleeting yet profound connection between two strangers in Seoul. Under the glowing city lights and humid summer air, a chance encounter at a late-night convenience store sparks an unexpected bond. As they walk through quiet streets and share intimate conversations, the night becomes a safe space where they can be their true selves. But as dawn approaches, they must confront the reality that this magical evening may be all they get. This tender short film explores the beauty and melancholy of a love that exists only for a moment, leaving a lasting impression that lingers far beyond the sunrise.

This little short film completely stole my heart. The way the two leads look at each other under those neon lights is pure magic. Yes, it's short, but it captures that 'one perfect night' feeling so perfectly. I wish it were longer, but maybe that's the point — some loves are meant to be fleeting and beautiful.

The atmosphere is nice, but there's barely any story here. The entire film is just two guys walking and talking with no real conflict or development. For a short film, it needed a stronger narrative arc or at least a more impactful ending. Feels more like a mood piece than a complete story.

Visually, this short is a gem. The color grading leans into warm ambers and cool blues that perfectly mirror the summer night setting. The use of reflections in shop windows and rain-soaked streets is gorgeous. I just wish the dialogue was as polished as the visuals.

I appreciate that this film shows a gentle, consensual same-sex connection without trauma or sensationalism. The characters are respectful and honest about their feelings. However, the lack of any real world context or discussion of identity makes it feel a bit too sanitized. Still, a positive addition to the BL space for its era.
