Set against the cold, divided backdrop of Korea, *One Summer Night* is an unflinching and raw drama that plunges into the desperate aftermath of a forbidden love. In the winter of 2013, North Korean soldiers Yong Joon and Jae Sung are caught in a compromising act by a superior, shattering their world. The discovery forces Yong Joon to make a harrowing choice — he defects to South Korea, leaving Jae Sung behind and risking his life for a chance at freedom. Two years later, Yong Joon is barely surviving in Seoul, entangled in a brutally codependent and toxic relationship with Tae Kyu, a needy, childlike younger man who clings to him for survival. When Jae Sung suddenly resurfaces in the South, Yong Joon is torn between his past love and the unstable present. The film is a stark, sexually explicit exploration of poverty, trauma, and the lengths people will go for connection. With graphic realism and a tragic love triangle at its core, *One Summer Night* offers no easy answers — only the haunting, grimy truth of lives pushed to their breaking point.

I went in expecting a typical BL romance but got a gut-wrenching tale of survival. The chemistry between Yong Joon and Tae Kyu is palpable, even if it's toxic. The explicit scenes are intense but serve the story. I cried at the end. Not a feel-good watch, but unforgettable.

The premise is intriguing but the execution left me confused. Character motivations are unclear, especially why Yong Joon is so angry with Jae Sung. The plot jumps without context. Acting is good, but the story needed more development. I wouldn't rewatch.

This film is a hard watch because every relationship is built on codependency and exploitation. Yong Joon's choices are disturbing, and the power dynamics with Tae Kyu are deeply unhealthy. While it's realistic, I struggle to recommend it as entertainment. Important themes but handled without nuance.

The cold, gritty cinematography perfectly mirrors the characters' despair. The use of muted colors and tight frames creates a claustrophobic atmosphere. The music is subtle but effective. Technically impressive, but the story's bleakness may not appeal to everyone. A well-shot tragedy.

The background score is hauntingly beautiful and elevates the emotional weight. I especially loved the piano motifs during the flashbacks. The sound design is raw - you can hear every breath. It's a shame the script didn't match the audio quality.
