Koki, a man trapped in a cycle of loneliness and despair, works a dead-end job at a convenience store. After a near-fatal stabbing, he glimpses a stunning angel just before losing consciousness. Miraculously, he survives and returns to his small apartment, only to find the angel waiting there—grumpy, memoryless, with broken wings and feathers falling off. As Koki reluctantly takes in the angel, they begin an unconventional roommates' journey. Through simple daily acts—sharing meals, healing wounds, and exchanging sarcastic banter—both characters slowly confront their painful pasts and discover hidden reasons to keep living. This short but powerful series explores themes of suicide, redemption, and the quiet beauty of being seen. Is it a romance? A bromance? A fable? One Room Angel defies easy labels, offering instead a deeply moving, bittersweet experience that will linger long after the final feather falls.

I knew going in this wouldn't have physical romance, but the emotional intimacy between Koki and the angel completely stole my heart. Their quiet moments—eating together, fixing the wings, laughing over silly things—felt more romantic than any kiss scene. The ending broke me but also made me smile through tears. This is what pure love looks like.

The first three episodes dragged with repetitive scenes of Koki moping and the angel being grumpy. While the backstory is heartbreaking, the pacing felt uneven—too rushed in the last two episodes, then an ending that left me more frustrated than satisfied. I appreciate the attempt at depth, but the execution felt like an unfinished draft.

I appreciate that the series tackles depression and suicide with nuance, but I'm uneasy about the age gap framing. The angel is coded as a middle schooler, while Koki is a grown man. Their relationship is written platonically, but marketing it as BL blurs lines. That said, the message about finding reasons to live is powerful and handled responsibly.

As a huge fan of Harada's manga, I was nervous about the adaptation—but it's incredibly faithful! They kept the melancholic tone, the weird humor, and even the ambiguous finale. A few side characters got cut, but the core story and dialogue are lifted straight from the pages. If you loved the manga, you'll love this. Just prepare tissues.

The lighting in Koki's apartment shifts so subtly—from cold, blue-grey tones to warm, golden hues as their relationship deepens. It's a visual metaphor for healing. The angel's wings, though a bit low-budget, are shot with care to feel ethereal. The director clearly focused on intimate framing and soft focus to amplify the tenderness. A small but visually thoughtful production.
