Set against the backdrop of the high-pressure College Entrance Exam in South Korea, 'One Night' follows Geun-ho, a twenty-year-old gay man stepping into adulthood. After the final test, he joins his friends Yong-woo and Sang-soo for a celebratory night out, ending up at a gay bar for the first time. There, a chance encounter with the enigmatic Jun sparks an impulsive decision that changes everything. Drawn by an irresistible pull, Geun-ho recklessly follows Jun to Seoul for a single, transformative night. This short film delicately captures the exhilarating uncertainty of first love, the weight of self-discovery, and the bittersweet beauty of a connection that might only last until dawn. With its raw, intimate storytelling and authentic portrayal of queer youth in early-2010s Korea, 'One Night' is a poignant snapshot of a moment that lingers far beyond its runtime.

I stumbled upon this little gem and my heart hasn't recovered. The chemistry between Geun-ho and Jun is electric even in their brief scenes together. That wistful longing, the hesitant touches — it's exactly what I crave in a BL. Yes, it's short, but sometimes a one-night story hits harder than a full series. Highly recommend if you love bittersweet romance.

I appreciate the attempt at realistic queer storytelling, but as a film it feels incomplete. We jump straight into the hookup without any real character development for Jun, and the infidelity subplot is glossed over. The ending left me frustrated rather than moved. For a short film, it needed tighter pacing and more payoff.

The grainy, low-budget look works perfectly for this raw slice-of-life story. I love the dimly lit bar scenes and the way the camera lingers on small gestures. The color palette shifts from warm neon in the bar to cold, muted tones in Seoul — a subtle visual metaphor for the fleeting warmth of the night. Not a technical masterpiece, but very effective.

Important as a historical artifact of early Korean queer cinema. It normalizes a gay bar as a safe space and shows a young man taking charge of his own desires. However, the consent dynamics around the infidelity are murky, and Jun's motives remain vague. A decent watch for context, but I wish it had more to say about communication and boundaries.
