On paper, they’re the school’s most notorious troublemakers—skipping class, talking back, and acing detention like it’s a sport. But behind the rebellious facade, class princes No. 1 and No. 2 are actually top-tier students who just can’t be bothered to show it. When a new seating arrangement forces these two ‘problem youth’ to share a desk, their carefully constructed fake-slacker personas start to crack. What begins as a battle of wits and petty pranks slowly evolves into something neither expected: mutual respect, undeniable chemistry, and a secret they’re desperate to protect. Adapted from a wildly popular web novel, *No. 1 Student* is a refreshingly clever tale of academic rivalry, hidden genius, and the tender chaos of falling for your biggest competitor.

I am completely obsessed with No.1 and No.2! Their desk-sharing scenes are everything—the tension, the stolen glances, the way they slowly let their guard down. My heart melted when they finally admitted they only pretended to be bad students so they wouldn’t stand out. This is the sweetest slow-burn I’ve seen all year.

The premise is fun, but the pacing drags in the middle. Some of the side characters feel like cardboard cutouts, and the big 'reveal' that they’re both geniuses happens way too early, killing the mystery. It’s cute, but it could have been tighter. Still, the leads have okay chemistry.

As a huge fan of the web novel, I was nervous about the adaptation—and I’m pleasantly surprised! They kept the core rivalry and sweet moments intact, though they cut the side couple’s backstory. The actors really capture the characters’ hidden vulnerability. A faithful, heartwarming adaptation.

The lighting is soft and dreamy, perfect for a school romance. I loved the warm golden tones in the library scenes and the clever use of table reflections to show their silent conversations. Not every shot is perfect, but the visual storytelling is above average for a Thai BL.

I appreciate how the series handles the pressure to perform academically—both leads hide their intelligence because they’re scared of being labeled nerds or outcasts. The romance develops with clear respect and mutual consent; no red flags. A smart, socially aware take on the school-genre BL.
