Set against the bustling, gritty backdrop of Manila in 2008, *Next Attraction* follows a young man who makes a desperate decision to flee his troubled home life, seeking freedom and identity in the city's hidden corners. Alone and adrift, he stumbles into an unexpected encounter that becomes his first intimate experience with another man—a raw, tender moment that reshapes his understanding of connection and self-worth. This pioneering Philippine BL film captures a deeply personal journey of self-discovery, vulnerability, and the courage it takes to embrace one's desires in a society still grappling with acceptance. With a naturalistic, almost documentary-like style, the movie balances quiet introspection with the electric uncertainty of a first love. It’s a gentle, melancholic story that resonates long after the credits roll, offering a rare snapshot of queer life in the late 2000s Philippines.

I have a soft spot for this film because it captures a very specific kind of loneliness that feels real. The acting is a bit stiff and the camera work is rough, but the quiet chemistry between the leads makes the whole thing worthwhile. It's like watching a memory fade in and out—imperfect but deeply moving.

I appreciate the attempt at an intimate coming-of-age story, but the execution really drags. The pacing is uneven, many scenes feel aimless, and the dialogue is sparse to the point of being frustrating. For a film from 2008, I get the indie constraints, but it doesn't hold up well compared to later Filipino BL works.

This film is a valuable historical artifact for queer Filipino cinema. It doesn't follow modern BL formulas—it's messy, quiet, and unglamorous, which is exactly why it feels so honest. The scene where the two characters finally connect is shot with such vulnerability that it stayed with me for days. A must-watch for anyone interested in the roots of local queer storytelling.

Visually, *Next Attraction* has a DIY, almost Dogme 95 feel—grainy handheld shots, natural light, no score in many scenes. The aesthetic choices are interesting but not always effective. I appreciated the attempt at realism, but the lack of sustained visual composition made it hard to stay engaged. Still, the final 15 minutes are beautifully lit and framed.
