In the bustling corridors of a Tokyo office building, psychotherapeutic counselor Kamiya finds himself caught in a perplexing web of unspoken emotions. Tasked with guiding employees through their personal struggles, his professional detachment is tested when he begins consulting for Kaji, a stoic security guard nursing hidden wounds, and Masato, a charming young employee with a disarming smile. As Kamiya navigates their platonic love triangle, he discovers that the heart of the matter lies not in romance but in the quiet connections we forge in everyday spaces. Enter Jun, a building cleaner who observes from the shadows, holding a key to a truth that could unravel everything. Blending heartfelt comedy with a tender exploration of identity and workplace dynamics, *Nervous Propose* is a quirky, slow-burn film that celebrates the courage of embracing vulnerability. With a focus on emotional honesty over grand gestures, this Japanese BL offers a refreshingly grounded take on love, friendship, and the messiness of human connection.

I absolutely adored how quiet and tender this film is. Kamiya’s awkward flustered moments with Kaji made my heart flutter, and the rooftop scene? Pure magic. It’s not about passion—it’s about those tiny glances and shared silences. Perfect for a cozy night in.

The premise had potential, but the execution felt draggy. The love triangle barely develops, and Jun’s reveal felt rushed and underutilized. I appreciate the attempt at subtlety, but it left me wanting more narrative meat. A sweet but ultimately forgettable watch.

The cinematography is gorgeous—soft lighting and warm tones that mirror the gentle romance. Karasuma Tappei’s performance carries the film, and the office setting feels lived-in. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s visually pleasing and emotionally honest. A solid afternoon watch.

I liked that the film prioritizes consent and emotional readiness—no forced confessions or pressure. However, the power dynamics between counselor and employee were glossed over. A bit more reflection on workplace boundaries would have elevated it. Still, a refreshing change from toxic tropes.

The OST is an absolute gem! The piano motif that plays during Kamiya’s moments of doubt perfectly captures his internal conflict. It elevated every scene and made the emotional beats land even harder. I’ve already added three tracks to my playlist. A soundtrack lover’s delight!
