Set against the isolating backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, *My Troll Lover* follows Badette, a 25-year-old online seller struggling to keep her small business afloat while battling loneliness. When a particularly nasty Facebook troll starts leaving cruel comments on her posts, she's ready to fight back—until she discovers the troll is actually a secret admirer from her high school days. What unfolds is a charming, screen-based romance told entirely through video calls, social media DMs, and live streams. As Badette and her admirer navigate the awkwardness of reconnecting after years apart, they must also confront the realities of pandemic life, family expectations, and the blurred lines between online personas and real feelings. This Philippine mini web series captures the humor, heart, and digital intimacy of finding love when the world is locked down. Shot entirely through screenlife—a format where the entire story is told via computer and phone screens—*My Troll Lover* feels fresh, modern, and deeply relatable for anyone who's ever spent too much time on social media. It's a sweet, low-stakes romance that proves even a troll can have a heart of gold.

I absolutely melted watching Badette and her troll-turned-admirer! The screenlife format made me feel like I was watching my own friends fall in love over Messenger. It's so fluffy and realistic—exactly what I needed during lockdown nostalgia. Rod and EJ have insane chemistry even through a webcam. Highly recommend for a quick, feel-good binge!

I wanted to like this more, but the logic kept bothering me. Why would Badette keep engaging with a troll that harassed her for months? Their conflict resolution feels rushed and too convenient. The acting is okay but the script is thin—ten episodes end up repeating the same call-and-apology cycle. A cute idea that needed stronger writing.

As a queer viewer, I appreciate the representation and the way the series tackles online harassment versus genuine interest. However, I wish it had addressed the power imbalance more—him hiding his identity for years is a red flag the narrative glosses over. The romance is sweet, but it feels like a missed opportunity to discuss digital consent and boundaries in a pandemic context.

For a low-budget screenlife drama, the visual execution is surprisingly polished. The fake phone UIs, glitch effects, and split-screen conversations are well-designed and never confusing. The color grading shifts from cold blue (troll phase) to warm yellow (romance) are a nice subtle touch. Not groundbreaking, but it nails the aesthetic it's going for.

The background music is minimal but effective—mostly acoustic guitar loops and soft piano that match the intimate video-call vibe. There's one original song used in the final episode that really hits the emotional peak, but I wish they'd released a full OST. Still, the music doesn't carry the show; it's more of a pleasant backdrop.
