In the Michelin-starred kitchen of Laura Dining, perfectionist chef Yoon Do Gun rules with an iron spatula—until the arrival of the charming and equally talented Choi Jung Woo throws his world into chaos. Hired by the restaurant's ambitious owner to expand the brand, Choi Jung Woo is initially seen as a threat to Do Gun's position. What begins as a fiery professional rivalry soon simmers into something far more personal as the two chefs are forced to collaborate. A spontaneous outing to a deserted beach and a late-night amusement park visit crack the ice, revealing hidden vulnerabilities and an undeniable attraction. As they navigate the high-pressure culinary world, they discover that the secret ingredient to their best dishes might just be each other. *My Sweet Dear* is a tender, slow-burn enemies-to-lovers romance that serves up equal parts heart-fluttering sweetness and the savory tension of clashing egos. With gorgeous cinematography and a dreamy soundtrack, this Korean BL film is a comforting treat for anyone craving a low-stakes, high-heat (in emotion, not spice) love story set against the backdrop of sizzling pans and quiet, moonlit conversations.

I am absolutely obsessed with this movie. The way Yoon Do Gun's cold exterior melts when he sees Chef Choi smile? I felt that in my soul. Their beach scene is everything I want in a BL – no big drama, just two people falling softly. The actors have zero fear of eye contact and it shows. I've already rewatched it three times and I don't care if the plot is simple, the romance is perfect.

I wanted to love this, but the script leaves too many holes. Why does Laura want to replace her star chef? Where are all the customers? The relationship jumps from rivals to 'I'll cook for you' in less than a week. The actors are charming, but the pacing is so compressed that character motivations feel hollow. It's cute, but forgettable – like a microwave meal when you wanted a slow-cooked feast.

The music in this movie is a mixed bag. The instrumental piano pieces that play during the cooking montages are gorgeous and really elevate the mood. But that one English-language song that kicks in every romantic moment? It's so distracting and feels like it belongs in a 2000s rom-com. It actually pulled me out of the scene. Still, the overall sound design is warm and cozy – I'd listen to the instrumental OST on repeat.

I appreciate that this BL avoids the typical homophobic conflict and focuses on professional and personal growth. The power dynamic between the two chefs – one established, one the interloper – is handled with care, and there's no dubcon or coercion. However, the quick forgiveness of Laura's manipulation felt like a missed opportunity to explore workplace ethics. Still, it's refreshing to see a romance where both leads are consenting adults navigating feelings without trauma porn.

Visually, this film is a feast. The warm amber tones of the kitchen, the cool blue of the empty beach, the soft focus on the leads' faces – every shot is intentional and beautiful. The cinematographer knows exactly when to hold on a lingering glance. My only complaint is the overexposure in some outdoor scenes, which washes out the actors' expressions. But overall, it's one of the prettiest Korean BLs I've seen in terms of lighting and composition.
