My Stand-In is a genre-bending Thai BL that plunges you into a world of obsessive love, betrayal, and a second chance at life. Joe, a self-effacing stuntman who works as a body double for the smug actor Tong, finds himself drawn into a dizzying, dangerous relationship with Ming, the wealthy and charismatic son of a powerful family. What Joe doesn't know is that Ming sees him only as a pale reflection of Tong—the man Ming secretly pines for. When the devastating truth shatters Joe, he perishes in a freak accident on a foreign shoot, only to wake up in the body of another man with the same name. Armed with a new face but the same heart, Joe must navigate a world where everyone is a stranger and his old wounds are still raw. As he crosses paths with Ming again, the cycle of obsession and heartbreak threatens to repeat itself—unless Joe can finally break free or choose to relive the love that destroyed him. Blending steamy romance, supernatural intrigue, and edge-of-your-seat drama, this series explores whether love can survive death—and whether a person can truly change.

I am absolutely wrecked. Up and Poom have the most insane chemistry I've ever seen in a BL—every look, every touch, every fight felt so real. Yes, Ming is a red flag the size of a continent, but Joe's love is so pure and his forgiveness so beautiful that I cried for three episodes straight. The ending made me believe in second chances again. My heart is full.

I appreciate the ambition, but the plot holes are huge. Why does the psychic master exist if he does nothing? How does Tong get off scot-free? And the finale tries to wrap everything in a neat bow while ignoring all the trauma. The acting is good but the writing needed another draft. I kept yelling at the screen whenever Joe made yet another self-destructive choice.

As a fan of Shui Qian Cheng's novel, I was nervous about the adaptation—but they really captured the essence of Ming's obsessive, flawed love and Joe's heartbreaking resilience. Yes, they toned down the novel's more extreme toxicity, but the emotional core remains intact. Poom's portrayal of Joe is even better than I imagined. A worthy adaptation that stands on its own.

This series is a fascinating but troubling exploration of power dynamics and consent. Ming's possessiveness and manipulation are framed as romantic, and Joe's endless forgiveness feels like it romanticizes abuse. That said, I appreciate that the show doesn't pretend Ming is a saint—it lets us sit in the discomfort. Worth watching for the conversation it starts, but not without serious trigger warnings.

The cinematography in My Stand-In is absolutely stunning. Every frame is drenched in moody blues and warm ambers that mirror the characters' emotional states. The mirror reflections, the rain-soaked scenes, the way they use light to show Joe's duality—it's a visual feast. Even the fight scenes are choreographed with artistic flair. A rare BL that treats every shot like a painting.

The music in this series is an emotional powerhouse. The main theme plays at just the right moments, and the instrumental tracks during the angsty scenes had me gripping my pillow. I do wish there were more variety—it's only three songs on repeat—but the songs themselves are gorgeous and perfectly fit the melancholic yet hopeful tone. Already on my playlist.

Finally a BL that gives proper respect to the stunt world! The action sequences—especially the car crash, the stair fall, and the fight at the warehouse—are visceral and well-shot. Poom actually looks like he can throw a punch. I came for the romance but stayed for the physicality. The way they tie the stuntman life into the plot is brilliant. More of this, please!

I was really hoping for a proper side couple arc—Sol had so much potential with his mysterious backstory and that intense rivalry with Ming. But sadly, his story was barely explored. The few scenes of him pining for Joe were electric, but then he just disappears. Give me a spin-off with Sol finding his own happiness! Still, the main couple had enough drama to keep me watching.
