What if the imaginary friend you created as a child wasn’t just in your head? In My Imaginary Boyfriend, Pai is a busy medical student drowning in the pressure of exams, family expectations, and the lonely grind of becoming a successful adult. He has long forgotten the playful companion he invented as a lonely boy—until one day, a handsome and enigmatic stranger named Ghost appears, claiming to be that very friend, now a supernatural being bound to him by a childhood curse. As Pai struggles to balance his hectic life and his growing, undeniable feelings for Ghost, he discovers that his imaginary boyfriend is real and that their connection comes with dangerous consequences. Ghost is being hunted by dark forces connected to the curse, and a mysterious series of medical incidents at the hospital hints at a much larger, terrifying conspiracy. Blending suspense, supernatural lore, and tender romance, this Thai BL series asks: Are you willing to risk everything for a love that was born from imagination?

I am completely obsessed with Pai and Ghost! Their chemistry is off the charts, and every scene where Ghost protects Pai had me screaming. The way their love grows from childhood memories to something so real and intense is beautiful. The supernatural thriller aspect only made me love it more—I was genuinely scared for them in some episodes. A must-watch for any romantic shipper!

I wanted to love this, but the pacing drags in the middle episodes with too many medical subplots that feel disconnected from the main romance. The curse explanation also gets convoluted towards the end. That said, the lead actors give solid performances, and the concept is original. If you can overlook the plot holes, it's an enjoyable watch.

The cinematography in My Imaginary Boyfriend is stunning. They use cold blue tones for the hospital and warm amber lighting for Ghost's appearances—it's such a clever visual metaphor for the contrast between Pai's lonely reality and his forbidden supernatural love. The dreamy flashback sequences are beautifully shot. Even if the story falters sometimes, the aesthetic alone is worth the watch.

As someone who read the original novel, I was nervous about the adaptation. They changed Ghost's backstory significantly and toned down some of his darker edges, which makes the series feel safer but less raw. That said, the actors capture the emotional core perfectly, and I appreciate that they kept the curse mystery mostly intact. It's a decent adaptation, just not as intense as the book.

I appreciate that this series handles consent and boundaries thoughtfully for a fantasy BL. Ghost may be a supernatural being, but he repeatedly asks Pai if he's okay with their growing intimacy. There's a scene where Pai feels pressured by the curse, and Ghost immediately backs off—that’s important representation. However, the dependency dynamic due to the curse could be problematic for some viewers. Overall, a decent step forward for ethical storytelling in the genre.
