My Extraordinary is a groundbreaking Filipino BL that made history as the first boys' love series to air on Philippine free TV. It follows the tender, star-crossed romance between Ken, a popular and good-natured university sophomore, and Shake, a quieter student from a humble background. Their connection blossoms in stolen moments—shared snacks of 'esaw,' late-night talks under a wishing tree, and a growing sense of belonging. But their love story is cut brutally short when a tragic car accident takes both their lives, triggered by a painful outing and a mother's homophobic rejection. What follows is a haunting, supernatural meditation on loss, regret, and the lingering bonds of love. Through the eyes of Ken's ghost, the series explores how those left behind grapple with guilt, acceptance, and the devastating cost of prejudice. Equal parts romance and tragedy, My Extraordinary is a raw, emotional rollercoaster that refuses to look away from the harsh realities many LGBTQ+ youth face—but also dares to ask: what makes love truly extraordinary?

I went into this knowing it would break my heart, and it did—but I still loved every minute. Enzo and Darwin had such sweet, natural chemistry. Their scenes under the wishing tree made me believe in fate. Yes, the ending is devastating, but that's what makes their love story feel so real and urgent. I cried for hours.

The first three episodes had me hooked, then it all fell apart. The supernatural twist felt tacked on, and the shift from a promising BL romance to a tragedy about a grieving mother and an unrepentant best friend was jarring. Ken and Shake barely got time to be a couple before they died—how am I supposed to root for a love that never really had a chance to bloom?

I wanted to like this, but the message is dangerously muddled. Sandee outs Ken out of jealousy and is basically forgiven because he dies—no real accountability. The mother only accepts her son after he's dead. It reinforces the idea that gay love is only valid in tragedy, which is a harmful trope. We need stories where queer people survive and thrive.

The music in My Extraordinary is absolutely breathtaking. 'Hindi Ko 'To Binalak' still gives me chills months later. Every emotional beat is amplified by Vincent de Jesus's score and Kenji Exaltacion's soulful voice. Even if the plot frustrates you, the soundtrack alone makes this worth watching. I've added every song to my playlist.

Visually, this series punches above its weight. The wishing tree scenes are bathed in warm golden light, and the ghost sequences have a soft, ethereal quality that really sells the supernatural element. The outdoor locations are beautiful, and the production design feels cinematic. Too bad the script couldn't match the visuals' ambition.
