Jiang Yi Feng is a Zhen-Yuan: he lives in a gray world without taste, touch, or color—until he’s near Lu Lin. Lu Lin, a hot-headed idol, is a ‘Deluded’—overwhelmed by violent emotions that society fears and shuns. When Yi Feng posts a scathing comment about Lu Lin online, their fated collision sparks an electric connection. As the two are thrown together—through a fake cohabitation scheme, a nosy fan sister, and a predatory talent agency—Yi Feng starts to feel for the first time, while Lu Lin finds calm in his presence. This micro-series (12 episodes of ~5 minutes each) packs a surprisingly heartfelt enemies-to-lovers arc, complete with magical realism and a defiantly queer love story that dances right up to China’s censorship line. Despite its breathless pace and abrupt cuts, it’s an endearing, unusual gem for BL fans who want a quick, soulmate-flavored fix.

I went in knowing it would be short and censored, but oh my gosh, the chemistry between the leads is adorable. Yi Feng learning to smile and feel because of Lu Lin had me kicking my feet. Yes, the cuts are awkward and the subs are weird, but when they finally say ‘I love you’? I forgive everything. A hidden gem for soulmate trope lovers.

The concept is genuinely interesting, but this barely qualifies as a series. It’s a collection of rushed vignettes with no room for world-building or character growth. The evil agency plot goes nowhere, and the action scenes are laughable. I admire that it’s unapologetically gay, but the execution is a mess. Watch only if you’re desperate for a 50-minute BL fix.

For a censored Chinese production, this is remarkably progressive. The ‘Deluded’ metaphor for queer people is painfully accurate—the fear of exposure, the predatory managers, the society that hates you for existing. Yi Feng’s numbness reads as closeted dissociation. It’s not perfect, but it’s a valuable piece of queer resistance that got past the censors. Worth watching for that alone.

The background music is… a mixed bag. Some tracks are actually quite pretty and match the emotional beats, but the sound design is distractingly bad—random sound effects popping up, muted dialogue. There’s one instrumental that plays during the confession scene that genuinely made me tear up, but then a fight scene sounds like a video game from 2005. I wish the audio got the love the story did.

The cinematography is surprisingly decent for a micro-budget series—nice color grading (the gray world vs. warm tones when Yi Feng feels) and some pretty framing. But the editing is brutal: random jump cuts where kisses were removed, green screens with no graphics, and a tunnel fight scene that’s poorly lit. There’s a good eye behind the camera, but post-production couldn’t keep up.
