Ten years after a painful high school breakup, Fang Chen and Song Zhe cross paths again under unexpected circumstances. Now a stoic police officer, Fang Chen is investigating a dangerous drug trafficking ring, while Song Zhe has become a photojournalist chasing the truth with his camera. Their reunion is tense and unresolved, but when Song Zhe gets too close to the case, the two are forced to work together, unraveling old wounds and buried feelings. Set against the gritty backdrop of a modern Chinese city, this short but emotionally layered series blends mystery and romance, using black-and-white flashbacks to hint at the bittersweet love story that was. Despite its limited runtime, 'My Boyfriend' delivers a quiet, melancholic exploration of second chances, regret, and the courage it takes to trust again. With a cast of young actors and a raw, indie feel, it's a hidden gem for fans of realistic, slow-burn BL with a suspenseful twist.

I've watched this series multiple times, and the music really stood out to me – the two opening songs and three commercial tracks fit the mood perfectly. Yes, the editing can be confusing at first, but once you let the black-and-white segments sink in, the whole story clicks. It's a short, rewatchable gem that rewards patience.

I wanted so badly to love this, but the storytelling felt like a puzzle missing half the pieces. Characters pop up without context, the romance has zero buildup, and the ending – while sad – didn't earn its emotional weight. It desperately needs a longer runtime or a remake to explain everything properly.

For a Chinese BL, I was honestly impressed they got as far as they did with the romance hints. But the censorship really watered down the relationship to barely-bromance levels, which hurts the emotional payoff. The drug trafficking plot had potential, but it felt like a backdrop rather than a driver.

The black-and-white flashbacks are a brilliant choice – they create a dreamlike contrast to the gritty present-day footage. I also appreciated the 1080p quality and the way the lighting shifts between cold blues for the investigation and warm tones for memory scenes. It's a small-budget show that punches above its visual weight.

I'm a sucker for second-chance romances, and the premise here had me so excited. But the chemistry between Fang Chen and Song Zhe felt stiff, and there's almost no romantic payoff – no kiss, no hug, just longing stares. It's more of a melancholy drama than a BL romance, which left me disappointed.
