In the quiet, sun-drenched mornings of a Thai suburb, two young men find their worlds colliding at a humble bus stop. Day after day, they exchange silent glances, shy smiles, and the unspoken promise of connection—never missing a single encounter. But as their unspoken bond deepens, the weight of unvoiced feelings and the fear of breaking the routine threaten to keep them apart. 'Morning Boy' is a tender, minimalist short film that captures the fragile beauty of first love through stolen moments and wordless gestures. With its gentle pacing and naturalistic performances, this 2014 Thai gem distills the essence of queer romance into a poignant, nostalgic vignette—a story about the courage it takes to turn a shared glance into something more.

I melted watching this. The way they look at each other at that bus stop every morning—it’s everything I love about BL. No drama, no angst, just two boys too shy to break the magic. That final kiss made my heart flutter like crazy!

It’s sweet but incredibly thin. The whole film is basically a montage of staring and smiling. I get that it’s a short, but I wanted just a hint of a story arc or conflict. Cute as a mood piece, but not much substance.

For a low-budget student film, the lighting and framing are surprisingly lovely. The warm golden-hour shots at the bus stop give it a dreamy, nostalgic feel. The director clearly understood how to say more with images than words.

I appreciate that the film focuses on mutual, awkward attraction without any power imbalance or homophobia as a plot device. It’s refreshing to see a BL that simply shows two boys being nervous and respectful with each other. A small but meaningful step for Thai queer media.
