Moon and Dust is a raw, emotionally charged Chinese BL miniseries that dives headfirst into the taboo, obsessive love between two non-blood brothers. Song Li (Zhang Yong Bo) took in a young, homeless boy, Song Qi (Liu Xuan Cheng), and raised him as his own sibling. Years later, their deep bond has curdled into something darker: Song Qi's devotion has become a possessive, all-consuming obsession, while Song Li struggles with guilt and repressed desire. Set against a backdrop of childhood trauma and societal pressure, this 6-episode drama explores the blurred lines between familial love and romantic passion. With stunning cinematography and a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack, Moon and Dust is a mature, unflinching look at the psychological turmoil of forbidden love, leaving viewers breathless and desperate for more.

I'm completely obsessed with Song Qi and Song Li! The way Liu Xuan Cheng plays the possessive younger brother is everything—I felt every ounce of his longing and desperation. Yes, the audio is a bit off, but the chemistry is so electric I didn't even care. That final cliffhanger has me counting down to a special episode! Protected and obsessed—this is my kind of love story.

The premise had potential, but the execution is a mess. The dubbing is atrocious and ruins any chance of immersion, and the story makes no logical sense—why does Song Li reject his brother without any explanation? The ending isn't ambiguous, it's just incomplete. I saw better handling of the same trope in 'Unknown'. Skip this unless you have a high tolerance for low-budget chaos.

I appreciate that this series isn't afraid to show the dark side of obsessive love, but it also romanticizes coercion and non-consensual behavior without proper critique. Song Qi's actions are framed as passionate rather than alarming, and the lack of clear consent in key scenes made me uncomfortable. It's a shame, because the actors have great chemistry—I just wish the writing had addressed the power dynamics more responsibly.

Visually, this is one of the most beautiful Chinese BLs I've seen—the lighting, the color grading, the way every shot captures the raw emotion between the leads. The dream sequences in episode 3 are pure poetry. Yes, the sound design is a bit rough, but the cinematography alone warrants a watch. It feels like a moody indie film trapped inside a micro-drama.

As a fan of the original web novel 'Bad Dog', I was excited but ultimately let down. The drama captures the obsessive tone, but it rushes through the character development and changes key moments that gave the novel its emotional depth. The ending is especially frustrating compared to the book's more nuanced resolution. Still, Liu Xuan Cheng's performance as Song Qi is spot-on—he embodies the character perfectly.
