What if a sweaty night at your local sauna turned into a literal swap of lives? In this delightfully absurd Taiwanese BL special, a harried young employee (Edward Chen) is on the verge of quitting his soul-crushing job under a handsome but demanding boss (Patrick Lee). After a chance supernatural encounter in a mysterious sauna, the two wake up to discover they have swapped bodies. Cue a hilarious, chaotic scramble to navigate each other's lives—from impossible deadlines to awkward romantic misunderstandings—while trying to break the bizarre curse. But as they stumble through each other's shoes (and skin), the forced proximity sparks an unexpected, genuine connection. Blending laugh-out-loud comedy, gentle supernatural twists, and a surprisingly tender romance, *Mermaid Sauna: Alternative Ending* offers a complete, standalone story that gives fans an alternate, more romantic conclusion to the original series. With a fun ensemble of side characters and plenty of sauna-related shenanigans, it's a quirky, heartwarming treat that proves love can happen even in the steamiest of places.

I'm absolutely in love with this special! The body-swap trope is my guilty pleasure, and Patrick Lee and Edward Chen had insane chemistry. Their awkward attempts to impersonate each other were hilarious, but the slow-burn romantic tension made my heart flutter. The ending was so satisfying—finally a BL that gives you the kiss you're craving without dragging it out. Perfect comfort watch.

I get that this is a fluffy, comedic special, but the logic holes bugged me. Why does the sauna only work at midnight? And how did they figure out the curse so easily? The side characters felt underused, and the resolution was a bit too convenient. That said, the leads had good comic timing, and it's watchable if you turn your brain off. Fine for a one-time laugh.

Visually, this is a gem. The sauna scenes are bathed in warm, golden light that perfectly contrasts the cool blue of the office. The director plays with reflections in mirrors and water to emphasize the identity swap, and the color grading shifts subtly as the romance develops. Even the opening credits have a playful, retro vibe. It's not a cinematic masterpiece, but it's beautifully composed for a short-form BL.

I appreciated that the body-swap forced the leads to literally walk in each other's shoes—and that the boss quickly learned to respect his employee's boundaries. There's a nice theme about workplace power dynamics and empathy. However, I wish there'd been a clearer conversation about consent before the romantic escalation. Still, for a comedy, it handles the ethical implications better than many similar shows.

Honestly, the main couple was cute, but I was completely hooked on the side couple—the sauna attendant and the grumpy regular customer? Their bickering was electric, and they had this unspoken angst that screamed 'enemies to lovers.' I'm so mad we didn't get a full episode just for them! The main story was fun, but those two stole every scene they were in.
