Set against the eerie stillness of Metro Manila's lockdown, filmmaker Jim and former actor Michael find themselves trapped in a claustrophobic reunion. Five years earlier, their intense professional and romantic bond shattered when Michael abruptly left a film project. Now, as they revisit the past through fragmented memories and raw confrontations, the series blurs the lines between reality, performance, and desire. With its hypnotic, theater-in-the-round style and unflinching eroticism, *Memories of Forgetting* is an avant-garde exploration of power, memory, and queer love in a society that refuses to sanctify it. This is not a romance for comfort seekers—it's a melancholic, provocative, and deeply human experience that dares to ask whether some wounds can ever truly heal.

I went in expecting a typical romance but got something far more complicated. The chemistry between Jim and Michael is undeniable, even when it's toxic. Their longing and pain felt so real. I couldn't look away, but the repeated singing scenes and the bleak ending left me a bit hollow. Still, for the raw emotion, I give it a 7.

The pretentious avant-garde style can't hide a messy, illogical plot. The constant flashbacks and singing felt like padding. And the relationship? It's abusive, not romantic. The ending with the heterosexual wedding reinforces a homophobic message that completely undercuts any claim to queer representation. Skip this.

Visually, this series is a hypnotic dream. The grainy cinematography, the claustrophobic framing, the way the camera lingers on bodies — it's pure art. The theater-in-the-round approach made me feel like a voyeur. But the repetitive sequences and off-key musical numbers broke the spell for me. For the aesthetics alone, it's worth a watch.

As a consent educator, I found this series deeply troubling. The central relationship is built on a power imbalance (director/actor) and includes a scene where Michael forces himself on Jim. The narrative frames this as passionate rather than problematic. Combine that with a finale that blesses heteronormativity while leaving the queer couple separated, and you have a regressive work that romanticizes coercion.

The music is haunting — a melancholic piano theme that perfectly captures the sense of loss. But the characters randomly break into song, which felt jarring and out of place. The OST album might be better than the series itself. If you're a music lover, you'll appreciate the mood, but the story left me frustrated.
