In this tender Thai short film, high school student Up is a sensitive, artistic soul who loves makeup—but his passion makes him a target for bullies. When confident, straight-laced transfer student Mek transfers to his school, an unlikely friendship blossoms. Mek, a sturdy 'oak' who respects Up's craft, becomes his protector and cheerleader, helping Up shed his insecurities and embrace his true self. As they navigate the trials of adolescence, from cruel rumors to self-doubt, their bond deepens into something more. But can a shy makeup artist and a popular athlete cross the line from friendship to first love? 'Make Up, Make Me Grow Up!' is a heartwarming, 35-minute journey of self-acceptance, courage, and the transformative power of being seen for who you really are.

I absolutely adored Mek and Up! Their chemistry was so natural and sweet—Mek being the steady, supportive force while Up learns to stand tall. The scene where Mek defends Up from bullies made my heart melt. Yes, it's short, but every minute is packed with feels. Definitely recommend for a cozy watch.

The message is nice, but the execution felt rushed. The romance develops too quickly—I didn't buy why Mek fell for Up beyond being nice. Also, random strangers walking up to take selfies? That pulled me out. With a longer runtime, it could have been much stronger. Still, it's a decent short film.

I appreciate that the film tackles bullying and non-consensual image sharing head-on, but I wish it had shown the consequences more clearly. Up's journey toward self-acceptance is inspiring, though. The supportive dynamic between the leads is a great example of healthy teenage love. Worth a watch for the themes alone.

For a short indie film, the cinematography is surprisingly lovely—soft lighting, warm color grading, and intimate close-ups. The makeup transformation scenes are beautifully shot. I just wish the editing was tighter; some moments dragged. But visually, it's a treat.

The background score is understated but effective—gentle piano pieces that underscore the emotional beats perfectly. There's also a sweet original song during the climax that had me tearing up. If they release an OST, I'd buy it. The music really elevated the story for me.
