When unsuperstitious university student Nakun is suddenly hurled 400 years into the past to the magnificent Ayutthaya Kingdom, he's mistaken for a missing courtier and thrust into a world of palace intrigue, ancient customs, and a mysterious nobleman named Phop who seems to know him. As Nakun struggles to find his way home, he uncovers a love story written across centuries—one that challenges his modern beliefs about fate, sacrifice, and the enduring power of connection. Blending heart-pounding time travel with lush historical romance, this Thai BL masterpiece from Domundi weaves together comedy, yearning, and breathtaking visuals as two souls destined for each other navigate the impossible distance between two eras. With a richly detailed setting, a clever script that respects the complexities of time, and a central romance that will leave you breathless, *Love upon a Time* is a sweeping, emotional journey that proves true love transcends even the boundaries of time itself.

I am absolutely obsessed with Phop and Nakun! NetJJ’s chemistry is off the charts—every scene they share feels so raw and real. That river bathing scene? I’m still not over it. The way Phop looks at Nakun across centuries… my heart can’t take it. This is the kind of love story that makes you believe in fate. A solid 10/10 for romance!

I wanted to love this, but the time-travel logic falls apart quickly. The reveal that Phop orchestrated everything from the future creates an infinite loop that makes no sense, and the explanation felt tacked on. The comedy in the first few episodes dragged on too long, and the historical inaccuracies bothered me as a Thai viewer. Beautiful production, but the script needed tighter editing.

Every single frame of this series is a work of art. The color grading captures the warmth of the Ayutthaya sun, the costumes are meticulously detailed, and the camera work during emotional scenes is perfectly paced. Director Khemjira knows how to make a historical setting feel alive and intimate. I could watch the opening credits on repeat. A visual knockout.

I was nervous about the adaptation because they changed Klao’s death scene and how Phop’s items were handled, but I think the drama actually improved the emotional payoff. The ending tied everything together beautifully, and the inclusion of the Marriage Equity Law nod felt earned. Some side characters got less depth than in the novel, but the core love story remains intact and even stronger.

While the romance is undeniably compelling, I was uncomfortable with how the series romanticizes master-servant dynamics—slaves in the past are portrayed as cheerful friends, and modern class status remains unchanged. The show also imposes a Western-style homophobia that doesn’t fit Thailand’s historical attitudes toward third genders. The leads have great chemistry, but the social messaging felt careless.
