With a 99.2% chance the world will end in just seven days, Hee Su decides to stop living in the shadows. He comes out to his parents and boldly pursues the man he’s always admired, U Jin. But U Jin clings to the 0.8% hope that life will go on, believing they should live normally until the very end. What follows is a beautifully intense, fast-paced romance that explores living authentically when time is running out. Shot in an innovative vertical format and spanning 40 micro-episodes, this South Korean BL delivers surprising emotional depth and genuine character growth. With a healthy, communicative relationship at its core and a bittersweet apocalypse backdrop, Love in the Apocalypse proves that even in the face of annihilation, love is worth the risk.

I absolutely melted watching Hee Su and U Jin. Their communication is so healthy—they actually talk through their feelings! The apocalypse setting made every moment feel urgent and precious. Sure, some drama felt forced, but the sweet scenes between them more than made up for it. That hug in episode 14? Perfection.

I wanted to love this, but the plotting is a mess. Characters get kidnapped multiple times in a seven-day span, the ex-boyfriend is a cartoon villain, and the open ending feels like a cop-out. The core romance is sweet, but it gets lost in needless drama. With 40 two-minute episodes, they had no excuse for pacing this bad.

I was skeptical about the vertical format, but honestly, it's used quite creatively here. The tight framing forces you to focus on the actors' expressions, and the color palette shifts from cool blues to warm golds as the relationship develops. The budget clearly went into good lighting and set design. A few jarring cuts, but overall visually impressive for a short-form series.

I appreciate that the leads model enthusiastic consent and open communication—U Jin asking 'Can I kiss you?' is a small but huge win. However, the repeated kidnapping and ex-boyfriend's obsessive behavior felt gratuitous and played into harmful tropes. The mom's acceptance was lovely, but the violence against the gay characters was unnecessary. A mixed bag for representation.
