Lost and Found is a poignant Chinese short film that intertwines love, loss, and identity in the aftermath of the MH370 tragedy. When Qian Bi vanishes on Malaysian Airlines flight MH370, her boyfriend Xiang Pi is left shattered, clinging to the hope that the airline's promised search results parcel will bring closure. But as Xiang Pi waits, he crosses paths with a mysterious woman who is also searching for a missing loved one—her girlfriend. This chance encounter sparks an unexpected bond between a gay man and a lesbian, both mourning their partners. Together, they navigate grief, societal pressures, and the painful limbo of not knowing. What makes Lost and Found special is its raw, understated exploration of LGBTQ+ love as equally valid and devastating as any other. The film doesn't shy away from the quiet moments of despair and fleeting hope, using the real-life disaster as a backdrop for a deeply human story about finding connection in the darkest of times. A tender, tear-jerking meditation on love that transcends gender and loss.

I cried so much watching this. The way it shows a gay man and a lesbian woman bonding over their shared loss of partners—it's just so beautiful and painfully real. No flashy romance, just raw emotion. The quiet hug scene broke me. A hidden gem for fans of heartfelt LGBTQ+ stories.

I appreciate the attempt to tie LGBTQ+ themes into a real tragedy, but the story feels underdeveloped. The short runtime means we never really get to know the missing partners, so the emotional payoff is weaker than it could be. The cinematography is nice, but the pacing drags. A noble effort that falls short.

Visually, this film is stunning for a short. The use of muted colors and shallow depth-of-field creates an intimate, melancholic atmosphere that perfectly matches the grief. The camera lingers on faces and small gestures—a masterclass in 'show, don't tell.' I just wish the script had more depth to match the visuals.

I'm torn. On one hand, it's groundbreaking for a Chinese film to center both a gay and lesbian character without sensationalism. The grief is handled with respect. On the other hand, the film leans too heavily on the tragedy and doesn't give the queer relationships enough space to breathe outside of loss. A step forward, but still cautious.

The piano score is haunting and perfect—it carries the entire emotional weight when the dialogue is sparse. The music swells at just the right moments, making the ache of waiting and the flicker of hope tangible. I've been searching for the soundtrack ever since. A short film where music becomes a character.
