When university-bound Natsukawa Ryota moves into his new apartment, the last person he expects to see is his childhood friend, Tanaka Kazuhito. The two haven't spoken in years, yet here they are, about to become roommates. Ryota, a responsible and homey type, is baffled by the seemingly perfect Kazuhito—popular, athletic, and kind—yet perpetually single. Driven by curiosity, Ryota proposes a mock date to uncover Kazuhito's romantic flaws. But as they spend more time together, rekindling old jokes and quiet moments, Ryota begins to feel a flutter that goes beyond friendship. What starts as a simple investigation slowly unravels into a tender journey of self-discovery, as both young men must confront their buried feelings and the fear of ruining a cherished bond. This gentle, slice-of-life drama captures the sweet uncertainty of falling for the person who has always been there, and the courage it takes to say those three words.

This is exactly the kind of slow-burn I live for! The way Kazuhito and Ryota's eyes speak volumes in every scene – I was swooning from episode one. Yes, the kisses are chaste, but the emotional payoff in the final episode had me tearing up. If you want a drama that makes you believe in love again, this is it.

I wanted to love this, but the pacing killed it for me. Too many scenes of Ryota cooking or staring out the window – you could easily condense this into a 4-episode series without losing anything. The leads have charm, but the lack of conflict or real plot progression makes it feel like a 2-hour movie stretched to 8 episodes.

Visually, this drama is a warm hug. The color palette shifts subtly from cool blues in the early episodes to warm amber tones as their relationship deepens. I loved the recurring motif of matching mugs and toothbrushes – it's such a clever visual shorthand for intimacy. The shaky-cam in a few scenes was a minor distraction, but overall, a beautifully shot show.

The OST is the unsung hero of this series. The main theme is incredibly catchy and perfectly captures that butterflies-in-your-stomach feeling of young love. Each instrumental cue lands at just the right emotional beat – especially the piano piece during the confession scene. I've been streaming the soundtrack on repeat since I finished the show.

I appreciate how this drama handles the emotional journey of questioning your sexuality. Ryota's internal struggle with internalized homophobia is shown, though I wish it had been explored a bit deeper. The communication between the leads is refreshingly healthy – no coercion, no pressure. That said, the 'perfect Kazuhito' trope feels a bit unrealistic; I would have liked to see him struggle more openly with his own flaws.
