In the vibrant heart of Manila, two best friends, Marco and Luis, have shared everything since childhood: late-night gaming sessions, comfort during breakups, and dreams of the future. But beneath the laughter and easy banter, a quiet tension has been building. Marco has been nursing a secret crush on Luis for years, terrified that confessing would shatter their unbreakable bond. As they navigate their final year of university, a series of small, tender moments—a lingering hand on the shoulder, a shared umbrella in the rain, a sleepless night spent talking until dawn—begin to blur the lines between friendship and something deeper. This beautifully shot short film captures the aching, universal experience of loving someone who might never see you the same way. With no dialogue-heavy exposition, the story relies on stolen glances, subtle gestures, and the electric silence between two souls on the verge of a life-changing truth. *Less than Lovers* is a poignant, visually stunning exploration of unspoken love that will leave you breathless and reaching for a tissue.

I watched this three times in one night. The way Marco looks at Luis when he thinks no one is noticing broke me. It's so painfully real—the silence, the almost-touches, the fear of ruining everything. No over-the-top drama, just pure, aching heart. If you love slow-burn friends-to-lovers, this is mandatory viewing.

The cinematography is undeniably gorgeous—those nighttime rooftop shots are wallpaper-worthy. But as a short film, the pacing feels a bit too drawn out in the middle. I would have liked a little more narrative progression before the final scene. Still, the emotional payoff is earned by the end.

The soundtrack alone carried me through every scene. That gentle piano motif that swells during the last minute—I've been humming it for days. It's rare to find a short film that uses music so sparingly yet so powerfully. Every note matches the longing on screen. Absolutely breathtaking.

I appreciate how the film respects boundaries. Marco's internal conflict never turns into creepy pursuit—he genuinely values Luis's feelings and friendship above his own desires. The climax feels earned and consensual emotionally. My only minor critique is that I wish we saw a bit more of Luis's perspective to balance the power dynamics.

As someone who loves visual storytelling, this film is a feast. The choice to use natural light and handheld shots during intimate conversations made me feel like a fly on the wall. The final shot—two silhouettes against a pastel dawn sky—is one of the most beautiful images I've seen in any BL this year. A masterclass in showing, not telling.
