As someone who read the novel, I was nervous. But the adaptation is surprisingly faithful. They kept the lyrical dialogue and even improved on some scenes by using visual metaphors that the book couldn't. The only thing I missed was the internal monologue from the novel, but the visual storytelling compensates.

The soundtrack is otherworldly. The piano theme that plays during the painter's flashbacks—I can't get it out of my head. It perfectly captures the bittersweet tone. I've downloaded it and listen to it on repeat. The music alone makes this series worth watching.
