Set against the vibrant backdrop of Manila, *Labyu* (Love You) follows Gerry and Paolo, two young men carrying the weight of past heartbreaks. Gerry, a hopeful romantic still nursing old wounds, and Paolo, a more pragmatic soul wary of love, strike an unconventional deal: they will train each other—physically and emotionally—for the day they finally meet their respective 'Mr. Right.' What begins as a no-strings-attached arrangement soon blurs the lines between practice and genuine feeling. As they share awkward dates, tender moments, and unexpected vulnerabilities, the two discover that the heart doesn't follow a script. With a blend of comedy, heartfelt drama, and a touch of irreverent humor, *Labyu* explores the messy, beautiful journey of finding love when you least expect it—and the courage it takes to break your own rules. This Pinoy gem, originally a 2014 film and later recut into a series, offers a raw, charming look at self-discovery and the risks we take for connection.

I absolutely adored Gerry and Paolo! Their 'practice love' setup was so cute and felt incredibly real. The slow-burn progression had me grinning from ear to ear. Sure, the music choices in the second half were weird, but the genuine chemistry more than made up for it. A sweet, low-key gem.

I wanted to love this, but the film felt undercooked. The acting was decent, and the premise is clever, but the second half drags with a jarring soundtrack and some over-the-top side characters. The recut series version didn't fix the pacing issues. It's charmingly messy, but I expected more polish.

The music in *Labyu* is a total train wreck. The first half has okay mood-setting tracks, but then around the midpoint, some bizarre, out-of-place pop songs kick in that completely break the emotional immersion. It's like two different movies. Such a shame, because the leads deserved better audio support.

As a historian of Pinoy BL, I appreciate *Labyu* for its pioneering nature. It captures the earnest, DIY spirit of early Filipino queer cinema. The acting is natural, and the 'training for real love' angle is surprisingly touching. Flawed? Yes. But it's a warm, important watch for anyone studying the genre's evolution.

While the leads have sweet chemistry, the premise of 'practicing' love with someone else feels a bit ethically gray. The film doesn't fully explore the potential emotional manipulation. Also, one side character's crude humor didn't age well. That said, the core romance is handled with care, and it's mostly harmless fun.
