Kiss (2017) is a tender Japanese short film that strips romance down to its purest essence: two men in love, sharing a single, uninterrupted kiss. The narrative unfolds in real time as a gay couple deepens their bond through an act of intimate affection, captured with unflinching honesty. What makes this film extraordinary is that the actors are a real-life couple, their genuine chemistry radiating off the screen. Director [name not given] deliberately blurs the line between fiction and reality, inviting viewers to witness love in its most authentic form—unrehearsed, vulnerable, and breathtakingly simple. With no elaborate plot or dialogue, the film relies entirely on the power of a single moment, exploring themes of trust, desire, and emotional connection. This is not a story told through words, but through breath, touch, and the quiet electricity between two souls. Perfect for those who appreciate minimalist storytelling and raw emotional intimacy, Kiss is a love letter to the beauty of being present with someone you adore.

Okay, I'm a total sucker for real couples on screen, and this short film delivered exactly what I needed. Their kiss felt so genuine and unguarded, I almost looked away from the intimacy. It's just a few minutes but I felt the love radiating through the screen. A perfect little gem for hopeless romantics like me.

I appreciate the concept and the real-life chemistry, but honestly, a five-minute kissing scene isn't enough to hold my interest. It feels more like an experimental art piece than a narrative film. The lack of any story or character development leaves me wanting more substance. Not terrible, just shallow.

Visually, this short is stunning. The director uses soft natural lighting and extreme close-ups to capture every flicker of emotion in the actors' eyes. The shallow depth of field makes the world disappear, leaving only their faces and the kiss. It's a masterclass in using minimal resources to create maximum intimacy. That alone made it worth watching.

I admire that the film presents a loving, consensual gay relationship without any conflict or tragedy—just pure affection. That's refreshing for LGBTQ+ representation. However, the ultra-short runtime means there's no exploration of the relationship's dynamics or challenges. It's a beautiful snapshot, but I wish it had more depth to reflect the complexity of real love.
