Kateikyoshi no Kishi Knight desu. is a riotous, heartwarming comedy that follows the unlikely bond between Takasugi Toru, a hot-headed high school delinquent with zero academic ambition, and his enigmatic private tutor, Kishi Naito—a dazzlingly handsome and impeccably mannered 'sparkling prince' who seems almost too perfect to be real. When Toru's exasperated mother hires Kishi to rein in her son's fighting and failing grades, the stage is set for a chaotic clash of personalities. But beneath the over-the-top slapstick and Toru's exaggerated inner monologues (complete with a hilariously squeaky narrative voice), a sincere and tender story unfolds. Kishi’s patient, unorthodox teaching methods gradually crack Toru’s tough facade, revealing a lonely teenager desperate for belief and direction. As Toru’s feelings evolve from annoyance to admiration—and perhaps something deeper—the series walks a delicate line between uproarious anime-style humor and genuinely moving coming-of-age moments. With its cast of lovable delinquent sidekicks and a poetic, moonlit confession (the famous 'tsuki ga kirei desu ne?' exchange), this miniseries is a quirky, endearing exploration of mentorship, self-discovery, and the quiet bloom of love that refuses to be labelled.

I absolutely melted over Toru and Kishikishi. Their dynamic is hilarious but also so soft—the way Toru gets all flustered and his inner voice goes squeaky is everything. And that moon confession? I screamed! People saying it’s not BL clearly missed the subtle love blooming here. Give me more of this sweet, respectful slow-burn any day.

As someone who loved the original web manga, this adaptation feels like a watered-down cosplay. The actors are charming, but they don’t capture the rough, intimidating vibe of the manga characters. The comedy works sometimes, but the BL hints feel forced rather than organic. If you haven’t read the source, you might enjoy it more—I just wanted the grit I fell in love with.

I came for the over-the-top delinquent fights and stayed for the ridiculous humor. Yes, the acting is exaggerated like an anime, but that’s exactly why I loved it. The gang of goofy delinquents had me rolling on the floor. Not everything needs to be a serious romance—sometimes you just want a fun, dumb comedy that leaves you smiling. Special episodes better keep the energy high!

I appreciate the show’s message about believing in students, but the student-teacher power dynamic made me uncomfortable, especially since Toru is a minor. The romance is kept vague and respectful, which is good, but the constant teasing of a relationship without commitment feels like queerbaity marketing. I wish the series either fully owned the BL or dropped the romantic subtext altogether.

The background music in this show is surprisingly catchy—it perfectly matches the chaotic, upbeat energy. The opening theme is an absolute bop that I’ve added to my playlist. The sound design elevates the comedy beats and the few tender moments really shine because of the melodic cues. Even if the plot isn’t deep, the audio experience is top-notch.
