Kare ga Boku ni Koishita Wake is a delightfully chaotic and heartwarming Japanese BL miniseries that flips the script by placing the romance squarely in a high school staff room. Hikawa Toru is a brilliant, straight-laced elite graduate from Tokyo University who takes a teaching job to make a difference, only to find himself pursued by the school's lovable, goofball PE teacher, Akagi Masashi. Despite Akagi's childish antics and over-the-top confessions, Toru's resistance quickly melts into a sweet, unexpected romance. Filmed during the pandemic with a shoestring budget, the show compensates with an infectious charm, a supportive cast of characters (including the most accepting principal and mom in BL), and a genuinely positive message about love and acceptance. It's a brief, fluffy escape that proves a big heart can overcome any production shortcoming.

I absolutely fell in love with this charming, bemusing little series. Yes, the budget was tiny and the translation can be rough, but the leads have such adorable chemistry and the message about normalizing gay love is so heartening. The epilogue twist was perfect. Don't let the flaws stop you—this is pure, joyful BL.

They forgot to write a love story. The acting is stilted, the production values are basically nonexistent, and the 'insta-love' makes zero sense. Two adults acting like kids with no real chemistry or development. I had to speed it up just to finish. Skip this and watch Cherry Magic instead.

I appreciate how LGBTQ-positive this is, but I have to point out the non-consensual kissing and blackmail elements that are kinda glossed over. The support from the mom and principal is great, and I liked the GL rep in episode 4. The rushed plot leaves a lot to be desired, but it's a harmless watch if you're tolerant of low budgets.

They tried. The editing is a mess—background music drowns out dialogue—and the acting ranges from okay to cringy. You can really tell this was shot during quarantine with zero budget. The principal and Akagi's mom were the only shining lights. I admire the effort, but the execution just isn't there.

Cute n' chaotic <3 This is one of the most confusing yet heartwarming BLs I've ever seen! The chemistry between the leads is sweet and comforting. Plus, the ending theme song by the actor who plays Hikawa is a total bop! It's a perfect background watch while doing homework. I'm already planning a rewatch.
