What happens when a desperate wish to be loved leads to a second chance at life – in someone else’s body? *Kamisama no Ekohiiki* follows Amano Yashiro, a high school boy who, after a painful rejection from his best friend Kenta, dies in a sudden accident. In his final moment, he prays to the local shrine god to be reborn as a girl so he can finally win Kenta’s heart. His wish is granted, and Yashiro awakens as the petite, soft-spoken Tendou Kagura. Now living as a girl, he tries to navigate his new identity while getting closer to Kenta – who has no idea that his ‘new friend’ is actually his childhood best friend. But the god’s favoritism doesn't stop there: the real Kagura wakes up in Yashiro’s male body, and she has no intention of going back. What unfolds is a tender, thought-provoking journey about friendship, self-acceptance, and the true meaning of love. With a brilliant blend of humor, heart, and quiet introspection, this Japanese BL drama asks whether we fall for a person’s soul – or the body they inhabit – and delivers a story that will stay with you long after the credits roll.

I fell in love with every single character. The way Yashiro and Kenta's bond slowly rebuilds after the swap had me crying happy tears. Their final confession scene is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in a BL – pure, honest, and earned. No kiss needed!

I appreciate the ambition and the themes, but the pacing in the last two episodes falls apart. Important revelations happen too conveniently, and the god/deus ex machina resolution undermines the otherwise grounded character work. Still, the first six episodes are near-flawless.

The soft, golden lighting and the natural Japanese scenery create a dreamlike atmosphere that perfectly mirrors Yashiro's disorientation. Every shot feels deliberate – from the reflection shots in the shrine pond to the way the camera lingers on small gestures. A visual treat for anyone who loves cinematic storytelling.

As a trans viewer, I was nervous going in, but this drama handled the body swap with surprising care. It never uses the premise for cheap transgender jokes; instead it asks real questions about selfhood and the social construction of gender. Rin's journey with her attraction is especially nuanced. A rare find.

The opening theme 'Innocent' by Keina Suda is an absolute banger that sets the perfect hopeful yet melancholic tone. The background score seamlessly blends piano and acoustic guitar, enhancing every emotional beat without overpowering the dialogue. I've had the OST on loop for weeks.
