Amidst the breathtaking but isolated landscapes of a remote Philippine island, this five-episode miniseries weaves a poetic tale of love, loss, and self-discovery. When a heartbroken young man retreats to a mysterious guesthouse, he encounters a group of strangers each carrying their own hidden wounds. As celestial metaphors guide the narrative—stars and constellations symbolizing hope and direction—the series explores how two gay leads navigate their insecurities and slowly find an unexpected connection. Despite its limited budget, 'Island' offers a raw, atmospheric romance that leans into emotional introspection and scenic beauty, culminating in a quietly hopeful finale about finding your way home.

I really wanted to love this because I'm a sucker for island settings, but the plot is a mess. Characters appear and disappear without explanation, the sound cuts in and out, and that 'kiss' is just a terrible camera trick. The music and scenery are nice, but that's not enough to save it.

I know it's low budget and kind of confusing, but I actually felt something for the main couple by episodes 4 and 5. The chemistry is subtle but there, and the scene under the stars gave me butterflies. If you can overlook the shaky camera and bad audio, it has a sweet core.

Some of the scenic shots genuinely took my breath away—the gray ocean, the palm trees at sunset. But the lack of a tripod and outdoor mic completely ruins the immersion. It feels like a home video trying to be art. The editing in early episodes is jarring too.

I'm giving this an extra point just for the OST. The songs are genuinely lovely and carry the emotional weight better than the dialogue does. I've been humming the main theme for days. The series itself is a mess, but the music makes it bearable.

I'm deeply uncomfortable with how the attempted suicide is handled—it's played almost as a plot device without proper aftermath or sensitivity. The lack of clear consent conversations in the relationship also bugged me. This needed a sensitivity consultant.
