A lonely orphan, Shu Nian, spends his childhood hoping for a loving family. His wish seems to come true when Xie Yan, the son of a wealthy real estate magnate, adopts him—but the reality is far from a fairytale. Shu Nian is raised not as a brother, but as a personal valet and constant companion to the spoiled, possessive Xie Yan. Years later, after studying abroad, Xie Yan returns home and immediately reasserts his control over Shu Nian's life. Despite the emotional and physical dominance he endures, Shu Nian harbors a secret, consuming love for his master—a love that Xie Yan seems oblivious to, rejecting him publicly and cruelly. This film is a raw, emotionally charged exploration of power, loyalty, and forbidden desire, set against the backdrop of a wealthy Chinese family. It masterfully captures the anguish of unrequited love and the painful journey toward self-discovery, leaving viewers breathless and desperate for more.

Oh my god, the chemistry between Wang Bo Wen and Meng Rui is absolutely electric! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, feeling every bit of Shu Nian's pain and hidden longing. Yes, the relationship is toxic, but that's what makes it so compelling—it's a beautiful, painful mess that I couldn't look away from. The sequel only made me love them more!

I get why people like the angst, but the plot feels thin and relies too much on the master-servant cliché. Some scenes don't make sense—like why Shu Nian doesn't just leave after being treated like property. Also, the subtitles on my version were atrocious, which killed the immersion. Decent acting saves it from being a complete waste, but don't expect a well-crafted story.

I had to stop halfway through because the constant emotional abuse and non-consensual touching made me deeply uncomfortable. The film romanticizes a relationship where one party is essentially a brainwashed servant. I understand it's a product of its time and country, but I can't recommend this to anyone looking for a healthy or even vaguely respectful BL. Trigger warnings are not enough for this level of toxicity.

Visually, this film is stunning. The lighting, the color grading, the way each scene frames the power imbalance between the leads—everything feels deliberate and cinematic. Wang Bo Wen's soft, melancholic expressions and Meng Rui's intense glare create such a strong visual contrast. The plot may be simple, but the direction and acting elevate it to a memorable experience.

The soundtrack is what truly hooked me. The song 'Uncon.Love' plays at all the right moments and perfectly captures the devastating longing of Shu Nian. The classical piano pieces add so much atmosphere. I've been listening to the OST on repeat since I finished the film. The music alone makes this worth watching for any BL fan who appreciates a good emotional score.
