In this hauntingly beautiful Taiwanese short film, 'Insomnia' plunges us into the claustrophobic world of a young man wrestling with a sleepless night in his empty room. His solitude is shattered by a mysterious, shadowy presence that seems to know him better than he knows himself. As the apparition draws him into a tense, almost hallucinatory confrontation, long-buried memories of a past relationship resurface—fragments of love, loss, and regret. The film masterfully blurs the line between reality and psychological projection, forcing both the protagonist and the viewer to question what is truly being seen. With each flicker of light and whispered accusation, the young man is pushed to confront his darkest fears and the emotional scars he has tried to ignore. 'Insomnia' is a compact but emotionally dense thriller that uses its short runtime to deliver a powerful meditation on grief, unresolved love, and the ghosts we carry inside. Its atmospheric tension and raw, intimate performances make it a standout in queer psychological storytelling.

I went in expecting a typical ghost story, but what I got was a heartbreaking meditation on love and memory. The chemistry between the two leads (even though one is a shadow) was electric and painfully real. The final scene made me cry.

Visually striking but narratively thin. The psychological thriller angle is underdeveloped, and the 'mysterious presence' twist felt predictable. For a short film, it drags in the middle. I appreciate the attempt at queer horror, but it didn't land for me.

The lighting and framing are gorgeous—every shadow feels intentional, and the use of reflections in the window is brilliant. It's a masterclass in creating tension with limited space. The color palette shifts perfectly mirror the protagonist's emotional unraveling.

Interesting as a queer psychological piece, but I wish the film had handled the power dynamics of the past relationship more clearly. The 'mysterious presence' blurs consent lines in ways that feel unintentionally problematic. Still, it's a rare attempt at exploring trauma within a BL framework.
