Set against the backdrop of the final hours of 2021, *In a Time of Uncertainty* follows two struggling young actors—both sidelined by the pandemic and grappling with stalled careers—whose lives collide in a chance encounter on New Year’s Eve. What begins as a fleeting, desperate connection quickly deepens into an intimate yet volatile relationship, as they seek comfort and purpose in each other while the world outside remains locked down. The film masterfully captures the raw vulnerability of two men navigating their own emotional wreckage, balancing the euphoria of newfound closeness with the crushing weight of isolation, financial instability, and unanswered questions about their futures. Through poignant dialogue and electric chemistry, the story unfolds over a single night and its aftermath, exploring themes of loneliness, second chances, and the fragile hope that can bloom even in the most uncertain times. This Filipino indie gem delivers a gut-punch of realism, steering clear of melodrama to offer a tender, aching portrayal of love as both a lifeline and a risk.

I went in expecting a simple pandemic romance, but this film absolutely wrecked me in the best way. The way they look at each other—like they're the only two people left in the world—is everything I crave in a BL. So much raw feeling without any over-the-top drama. Instant favorite.

The acting and chemistry are undeniably strong, but the pacing drags in the middle and some of the dialogue feels too on-the-nose. I appreciate the pandemic realism, but I wish the script trusted the audience more with subtext. Still a solid indie effort.

The cinematography here is a quiet revelation. Shot mostly in one apartment with available light, the film uses shadow and grain to mirror the characters' inner isolation. Every close-up feels like a confession. A masterclass in making a small space feel emotionally vast.

I appreciated that the film doesn't romanticize toxic behavior—the power imbalance between the two actors is addressed head-on, and consent is woven organically into their intimate moments. It's a thoughtful take on how crisis can both warp and clarify desire. Refreshingly mature.

The soundtrack is sparse but perfectly chosen—a few ambient tracks and one heartbreaking acoustic ballad that plays over the climax. That song alone made me cry. The sound design, with city noise bleeding through the walls, anchors you in that lonely New Year's Eve. Beautiful.
