In a Relationship is a tender, pandemic-era Thai BL film that captures the thrill and vulnerability of finding love through a screen. Tono, a popular live-streaming gamer chasing online fame, is publicly roasted by Boss, a charismatic online celebrity with a hidden filter. After losing a heated game battle, Tono is forced to fulfill Boss's three demands—the last being to become his boyfriend. Reluctant but curious, Tono steps into a virtual romance that blossoms through late-night conversations, shared playlists, and stolen webcam glances. As the two teens navigate isolation, family absence, and the fear of being seen for who they really are, the film explores themes of self-acceptance, identity, and the courage to move from pixels to real-life connection. Compiling 17 short episodes into a cohesive 87-minute feature, this story is a heartfelt ode to how love can grow even when the world is shut inside.

I absolutely loved this! Tono and Boss have such adorable chemistry—the way they go from online rivalry to soft confessions made my heart flutter. The quarantine setting felt so real and made their romance even more special. A hidden gem!

I appreciate the attempt to show love during COVID, but the pacing feels choppy—probably because it was edited from super short episodes. Boss’s acne filter plot is resolved too quickly, and the side characters are barely there. It’s cute but not substantial.

What I appreciate most is how the film handles consent and identity: Tono’s slow journey to accepting his feelings and Boss’s shame around his face are handled with sensitivity. The power imbalance from the bet could have been toxic, but the story softens it into mutual growth. Worth a watch for the social commentary.

The cinematography is surprisingly decent for a web movie—soft lighting during video calls and a nice use of split screens to show isolation. But the visual quality drops in a few scenes, and the color grading feels uneven. It’s a good example of low-budget creativity.

The soundtrack really carries the emotion in this film! The song 'The Moon Will Always Be With Me' playing during their late-night chats is so dreamy. Every track fits the mood of first love and longing. I even added a few to my playlist.
