Tono, a live-stream gamer and content creator, is used to calling the shots in his virtual world—until a viewer named Boss leaves a scathing comment about his skills. Stung by the criticism, Tono challenges him to a one-on-one gaming duel, only to lose. Boss’s outrageous prize? That Tono becomes his boyfriend. What starts as a begrudging obligation quickly evolves into something deeper as the two teens navigate late-night video calls, shared secrets, and the quiet intimacy of pandemic-era isolation. But Boss hides behind a playful cat filter, masking his true appearance due to deep insecurities about his acne-scarred face. As Tono falls for the person behind the pixels, he must confront whether love can truly transcend the screen—and whether Boss will have the courage to show his real face. A sweet, low-budget Thai web series that explores the disconnect between online personas and real identity, *In a Relationship* is a tender snapshot of first love, self-acceptance, and the courage to be vulnerable in a digital world.

I went in expecting just another Gameboys clone, but this had its own heart. Tono and Boss are so awkwardly realistic—the way they fumble through video calls and shyly share music made me smile constantly. Sure, the ending was abrupt, but the journey was pure fluff therapy.

It starts charming but the plot relies too heavily on Boss being relentlessly pushy—that’s not cute, it’s borderline harassment. The resolution to the filter issue was way too easy and the finale felt like they ran out of budget. I wanted to love it, but the lack of consequence for the lying left a bad taste.

I appreciate that this show actually grapples with digital deception and body shame—Boss’s filter isn’t just a gimmick, it’s a real symptom of online insecurity. However, the power imbalance in their early interactions (the wager, the forced ‘boyfriend’ demand) goes unaddressed. Worth watching for the conversation it starts, but don’t expect a deep dive into consent.

The OST absolutely carries this series. That guitar gift scene? I cried. The dreamy, lo-fi tracks perfectly capture the nostalgia of pandemic lockdown romances. Even when the acting felt a bit sleepy, the music kept me emotionally invested. I’ve had the main theme on repeat for days.

Given the zero-budget constraints and pandemic filming limitations, the cinematography is surprisingly effective. The way they frame the computer screens and use lighting to show emotional walls coming down is clever. It’s not a visual feast, but it’s intimate and honest. I just wish the final meeting wasn’t left off-screen—that would have been a beautiful payoff.
