Ye Guang (Tsai Mi Chieh) is the perfect student: top of his class, handsome, and from a wealthy family. But beneath the surface, he's suffocating under the crushing weight of his parents' expectations and the loneliness of a popularity that feels hollow. One rainy day, a chance encounter with a clumsy, soft-spoken classmate named Xu Qi Zhang (Shen Jyun) changes everything. Qi Zhang lives in two worlds: by day, he's a quiet, glasses-wearing nerd blending into the crowd; by night, he transforms into a charismatic lead singer for his band, pouring his heart into every performance. When Ye Guang stumbles into Qi Zhang's world of music, late-night convenience store hangouts, and unwavering friendship, he discovers a freedom he never knew he craved. This isn't just a love story—it's a tender, coming-of-age tale about two boys learning to be themselves, supporting each other through family trauma and personal doubt, and finding comfort in the most unexpected places. Alongside them, best friends Ray (Lin Yu Ling) and Ah Jian (Li Zhen Hao) navigate their own complicated romance, dealing with issues of identity, secrecy, and acceptance. With a stunning original soundtrack, soft cinematography that feels like a warm hug, and a cast that radiates genuine youthful energy, *About Youth* is a gentle, heartfelt reminder that sometimes the bravest thing you can do is let someone see the real you.

I'm completely smitten. Ye Guang and Qi Zhang are the softest couple I've ever seen – every time they held hands or looked at each other, I was kicking my feet. The umbrella scene? The hair drying scene? I DIED. It's pure, innocent, and makes you believe in high school love all over again. Ignore the haters who want more plot – this is about FEELINGS, and it delivers in spades. Give me a season 2!

Look, I get the charm. The leads are cute, the music is nice. But your plot is a mess. The student council election takes up five minutes, random side characters vanish, and the entire parental conflict is resolved by Ye Guang handing in a blank test? That's not rebellion, that's just wasting screen time. With 8 episodes you need tighter writing. As fluff it's fine, but as a story it's barely held together.

Visually, this series is stunning. The warm, golden lighting during the band scenes, the soft blue of the rainy streets, the way the camera lingers on the boys' faces – it's like a moving photograph. The director understands how to use space and color to evoke emotion. Even the 'About Youth' umbrella is an iconic prop. If you appreciate good visual storytelling, watch this.

Can we talk about the music?! 'Slow Motion' is my most played song this year. The band actually performs, and Shen Jyun's voice is incredible. Every song fits the scene perfectly – the intro and outro are both on my daily playlist. The fact that the show is only 8 episodes makes the OST feel even more precious. I want a full album!

Honestly, I stayed for Ray and Ah Jian. Their story is messier and more interesting – the gender presentation, the controlling ex, the quiet acceptance from Jian. I wish we got more of their dynamic, especially after they get together. The matching t-shirt scene? Perfection. The main couple is sweet but a bit generic; the second couple brings the real depth. Give them a spin-off!

I appreciate that the show tackles parental abuse and the pressure to conform, but I'm frustrated that the resolution feels hollow. Ye Guang's parents never truly apologize or change – they just... stop being in the scene. The portrayal of Ray's cross-dressing also lacks clarity; is it his choice or coercion? It raises important questions without answering them. Still, the central relationship is built on mutual support and consent, which is a win.

Not my usual cup of tea (I'm more into fights and chases), but the band performances hooked me. The live singing, the energy – it's like watching a real concert. Even though there's no action, the emotional 'action' of two boys fighting for their dreams kept me engaged. The makeup and concert lighting were top-notch. A pleasant surprise.

I haven't read a novel adaptation for this, but I treat it as an original. However, I see why people want more – the pacing feels like there were missing chapters. The subplots are dropped, and characters vanish. If this were a novel, it would need a good edit. That said, the core romance is well translated to screen. I just wish it had the breathing room of a longer format.
