I'm such a sucker for these two! The special gave me all the warm fuzzies I wanted from a reunion episode. Ai's anxious anticipation was adorable, and the beach proposal had me teary-eyed. Sure, it's a bit silly, but that's exactly why I love it.

As someone who values coherent storytelling, this special felt like a wasted opportunity. The dream logic is inconsistent, and Yu's prank on Ai came across as genuinely mean rather than funny. The actors do what they can, but the script doesn't give them much to work with.

Having read the original novel, I was hoping the special would expand on the dream mythology. Instead, it mostly rehashes the same beats. That said, the character dynamics are true to the book, and the sweet ending felt earned for long-time fans.

I appreciated the f/f side couple getting screen time, but the main couple's communication issues are frustratingly toxic. Yu deliberately making Ai anxious for a 'surprise' isn't cute—it's manipulative. The lack of any real growth over four years is concerning.
