A decade after drifting apart, Jamie returns to Australia and is reunited with Kevin, his old school friend whose life has been profoundly shaped by depression. Kevin now lives a quiet, medicated existence, finding fleeting solace in the candid affection of a young gay student named Fai. Jamie, meanwhile, has buried his past—and his own hidden feelings—in a box of mementos. As the three intertwine, the film delicately unpacks themes of internalized homophobia, the stigma of mental health, and the impossible choice between societal expectation and authentic love. Shot with a painterly eye and anchored by a deeply affecting performance from Lei Jeun Sek as Kevin, this Hong Kong independent gem is less a romance than a raw, melancholic meditation on what it means to miss someone who is already beside you. It doesn’t offer easy answers, but it lingers like a half-remembered dream.

I am in awe of how this film trusts its audience. Every glance, every silence says more than a thousand lines of dialogue. The cinematography is absolutely breathtaking—each shot feels like a painting. Kevin's portrayal of depression is the most authentic I've seen in any BL. A rare, beautiful piece of art.

I appreciate the attempt at realism, but the story just circles without a point. It starts and ends in the same emotional place—nothing is resolved. The characters are well-acted, especially the actor playing Kevin, but the script needed a stronger arc. A well-made film that left me feeling empty, not in a good way.

That final scene destroyed me in the best way. Jamie finally breaking down and begging Kevin not to leave—it was raw, earned, and heartbreaking. I wanted more interaction between the leads, but the slow-burn tension was perfect. Not your typical BL fluff; it’s a love story stained with real pain.

As a social worker, I was impressed by how respectfully the film handled Kevin's depression and medication. No romanticizing mental illness—just a honest, messy portrayal. That said, Jamie's internalized homophobia felt a bit undercooked. Still, it’s a valuable watch for anyone wanting to see LGBTQ+ stories beyond fairy tales.

The ambient soundtrack—soft piano, sparse guitar—mirrors Kevin's isolation perfectly. There’s one scene where music cuts out entirely, and the silence is louder than any score. Not a showy OST, but it complements the film’s melancholic tone beautifully.
