Set in the vibrant streets of Manila, 'I Luv U Pare Ko' is a heartfelt Filipino comedy-romance that explores the tangled web of unrequited love and friendship. Sam (Buboy Tan) and Carlo (Rocco Nacino) are inseparable best friends who do everything together—until one secret threatens to tear them apart. Sam is gay and deeply in love with Carlo, but Carlo is a notoriously loud homophobe, making Sam's confession feel impossible. What follows is a clumsy, hilarious, and surprisingly tender journey as Sam tries to navigate his feelings while keeping their bond intact. With a colorful supporting cast of quirky friends and family, the film balances laugh-out-loud moments with genuine emotional weight. It’s a charming snapshot of early-2010s Pinoy indie cinema that doesn’t shy away from the complexities of identity, acceptance, and the courage it takes to say 'I love you'—even when you’re terrified of the answer.

I absolutely melted watching Sam's pining! Buboy Tan's eyes say everything his mouth can't. Yes, the comedy is very early-2010s Pinoy, but the chemistry between the two leads is so real and awkwardly sweet. I cried when Sam finally confessed – this is what unrequited love feels like. A hidden gem for hopeless romantics.

The premise is solid, but the execution drags. The comedic side characters are over-the-top, and Carlo's homophobia feels cartoonish rather than realistic. I wanted more development of their friendship before the big reveal. The ending also felt rushed. Still, I appreciate that it exists – it's just not a well-crafted film.

This movie is a time capsule of how Filipino society talked about homosexuality in 2013 – for better and worse. I appreciated that Sam's internal struggle wasn't just a punchline, and the homophobic remarks are clearly framed as wrong. But the ending felt a bit too neat given how harmful Carlo's behavior was. Still, an important watch for understanding the evolution of Pinoy queer cinema.

The lighting is flat, the camera work is shaky, and the color grading screams 'early indie digital'. It’s clear the budget was almost zero. That said, a few scenes – like Sam watching Carlo from across a party – have a certain raw charm that fits the story's vulnerability. But overall, the visual storytelling is weak. Not one to watch for the cinematography.
