In the Thai countryside, Per reluctantly attends the wedding of his high school friends Ball and Focus, a bittersweet celebration that forces him to confront the past he's never truly left behind. As the festivities unfold, Per's mind drifts back to his teenage years, when he transferred to a new school and found himself inexplicably drawn to the charismatic Ball. What begins as a simple friendship soon becomes a secret crush, complicated by the undeniable chemistry between them and the growing presence of Focus, Ball's childhood friend and eventual bride. Through a series of poignant flashbacks, 'I Love You' weaves a tender, heart-wrenching tale of first love, unspoken feelings, and the painful choices that shape our futures. Based on a true story, this Thai film captures the quiet ache of loving someone you can never have, and the courage it takes to let go. With naturalistic performances and an emotionally resonant narrative, it stands as a moving exploration of queer desire, friendship, and the enduring power of memory.

I was completely swept away by the bittersweet longing in this film. The flashbacks to Per and Ball's high school days felt so real, my heart ached for them. Sure, the ending was ambiguous, but that only made me feel the story more deeply. If you love emotional, slow-burn BL, don't miss this gem.

The visual storytelling here is subtle but effective – soft lighting in the past scenes versus the harsh reality of the wedding day. I loved the color grading and the way the camera lingered on faces. However, the audio sync issues in the second half were distracting. A polished film that could have been even more stunning with better post-production.

The emotional premise is strong, but execution falters. The love triangle feels underdeveloped – Focus is barely a character, and Ball's motivations remain murky. I also found the casting of older actors as teens unconvincing. It dragged in the middle and the open ending felt like a cop-out. Decent for a true-story drama, but not groundbreaking.

I appreciate that this film tries to depict same-sex longing in a conservative setting, but I'm uncomfortable with how Ball's relationship with Focus is never critically examined. Per is clearly pining while the narrative seems to celebrate the straight wedding. The power dynamics and lack of agency for Per bothered me. A missed opportunity to explore queer identity more honestly.

The background score beautifully underscores every emotional beat – the piano theme during the flashbacks is haunting. I also loved the Thai folk song used at the wedding scene; it added cultural depth. The music alone made the film worth watching for me, even if the plot sometimes meanders. Would love an official soundtrack release!
