In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, two young men—Mark (Marky Erasga), a bisexual college student exploring his identity, and Henry (JC Lopez), a confident and flirty stranger—meet on a fictional dating app called Findr. What begins as a casual, steamy video chat quickly evolves into something deeper, forcing both to navigate the blurred lines between hookup culture and genuine connection. Filmed entirely through video calls, the series boldly tackles contemporary LGBTQ+ issues like biphobia, family obligations, sex work, and the realities of dating during a global health crisis. With a raw, theatrical dialogue style and a willingness to defy typical BL tropes—no accidental kisses, no compulsory gay-for-you narratives—"Hook Up" offers a refreshingly honest look at modern queer relationships. While budget constraints and inconsistent production values are evident, its fearless storytelling and commitment to progressive themes make it a unique, thought-provoking entry in the Pinoy BL landscape.

I wanted to love this more because the premise is so needed in BL, but the execution is frustratingly uneven. The dialogue is too long and theatrical—like a play where everyone monologues at each other. Still, I respect that they tackled biphobia and used a dating app without shame. It's a noble failure.

I was honestly more invested in Lukas (Niko Badayos)—he was such an interesting antagonist, not a typical villain. But the main couple's chemistry felt off, like they were reading scripts at each other instead of really connecting. The roosters in the background cracked me up though. Not bad for a no-budget pandemic project.

I applaud this series for daring to show a character who openly identifies as bisexual without any denial, and for including the #JusticeForJenniferLaude message. It handles consent and sex work with nuance. Sure, the acting and editing are rough, but the progressive heart is undeniable. More BLs should be this brave.

The theme song 'I Think' by Jean Kent is gorgeous—I've had it on repeat. And JC Lopez's acoustic cover in episode 3 gave me chills. The music honestly carried the emotional weight when the script got preachy. If only the editing matched the soundtrack's quality, this could have been a standout.

I really wanted to root for Mark and Henry, but their relationship felt so rushed and unnatural. By episode 4 they were already 'in love' after one hookup? The long, preachy arguments killed any romance for me. Cute concept but I'd rather watch Gameboys again for a proper video call love story.
