What if you could go back in time and rewrite the worst mistake of your life? That’s the haunting premise of HIStory: Obsessed, a taut four-episode Taiwanese BL miniseries that blends time travel, fate, and obsessive love into a psychological drama that will leave you breathless—and deeply divided. Shao Yi Chen (Teddy Jen) dies in a tragic accident that also involves his boyfriend, Chiang Chin Teng (Bernard He). But instead of an ending, his death becomes a twisted beginning: Yi Chen wakes up nine years in the past, a college student again, with the memory of his future heartbreak and death still raw. Determined to change his fate, he vows to avoid Chin Teng at all costs. But destiny has other plans. The moment they cross paths, the cool, mysterious Chin Teng becomes inexplicably drawn to Yi Chen—an obsession so intense it borders on dangerous. As Yi Chen struggles to resist the pull of the man who once destroyed him, the lines between love, possession, and fate blur into something electrifying and uncomfortable. This is not a gentle romance. It is a raw, polarizing exploration of second chances, the limits of devotion, and the terrifying question: can you escape the person you’re meant to love? HIStory: Obsessed is a bold, controversial entry in the HIStory franchise, praised for its sizzling chemistry and condemned for its troubling consent dynamics—but impossible to forget.

I don't care what anyone says – I LOVED this. Yes, the relationship is toxic, but that's the POINT. The title is 'Obsessed,' and Bernard He and Teddy Jen delivered the most intense, raw chemistry I've ever seen in a BL. Their kisses are not cute; they're desperate and hungry. The time travel twist honestly made me cry. Yi Chen trying to run from fate but being pulled back by Jin Teng's obsession – that's some tragic romance gold. I've rewatched the tent scene at least ten times. It's not for the faint of heart, but if you want passion that burns, this is it.

I had to stop multiple times while watching this. The show repeatedly frames sexual assault as romantic: the main lead forces himself on Yi Chen, ignores multiple 'no's, and the narrative expects us to swoon when he later cries about how much he loves him. It's textbook coercion, and it's dangerous to present this as aspirational love. A few reviews argue 'it's fantasy,' but fantasy can still perpetuate harmful norms. Add to that the weak logic of the time travel plot and you have a series that's not just unethical but also poorly written. I'm genuinely shocked this has an 8.0 average anywhere.

I went in wanting to like it because of the high ratings, but the storytelling is a mess. The time travel rules are never explained – does Yi Chen change the past or create a new timeline? Why does his future memory only activate selectively? The side plot with the fake engagement is so contrived it hurts. And the character development is non-existent: Jin Teng goes from mysterious nice guy to obsessive rapist with zero on-screen transition. The acting from the leads is honestly decent, but they can't salvage a script this lazy. I'd skip this and watch HIStory2: Crossing the Line instead – that one actually has a coherent narrative.

I'm giving this a high score purely on production value and visual storytelling. The lighting in the tent scenes is masterful – half shadows, half warmth, perfectly mirroring the moral ambiguity. The close-ups during the kiss scenes are framed so intimately you feel like you're intruding. Bernard He's micro-expressions deserve an award: the way his eyes shift from soft to predatory in seconds is incredible. The editing of the time jump is also clever, using color grading to distinguish the two timelines. Too bad the script couldn't match the visual ambition, but for a 4-episode web series, this is gorgeously shot.

Okay, I know everyone talks about the main leads, but can we talk about the side pairing? The 'disaster bi uke' and his enemies-to-lovers arc completely stole the show for me. Their dynamic is actually more interesting than the main obsession – it's playful, has real conflict, and the consent is CLEAR. I wish the show had given them more screen time. Their happy ending felt earned, while the main couple's 'happy' ending left me uneasy. If there's ever a spin-off featuring them, I'd watch in a heartbeat. Bonus: the actress playing the scheming fiancée was deliciously evil – more of that, please!

I'm a sucker for a good OST, and this series surprised me. The piano theme that plays during the emotional flashbacks is hauntingly beautiful – it stays with you long after the credits. The dramatic swell during the tent scene perfectly underscores the tension. However, the rest of the sound design is lacking: some scenes are eerily silent when they shouldn't be, and the background music can feel repetitive. Still, that one main theme is worth a listen. I've added it to my BL playlist, but the show itself? Meh. Characters frustrated me too much.

I know I should hate this. The relationship is clearly unhealthy. But I CANNOT stop watching. Every scene between Yi Chen and Jin Teng has me on the edge of my seat. The way Jin Teng says 'you're mine' – I felt that in my soul. I've read the arguments against it and I respect them, but as pure escapist fantasy, this hits all my buttons. The chemistry is off the charts, the kisses are the hottest in any BL I've seen, and the ending actually made me tear up (don't judge me). I've already rewatched it three times. Someone send help – or more episodes.
