I honestly watched this just for 'Obsessed' and it did not disappoint. The chemistry between Teddy Ren and Bernard He is INSANE—like, I couldn't look away. Sure, some of the consent stuff made me uncomfortable, but the angst and the twist had me rewinding scenes. 'Stay Away from Me' was also cute, though a bit tropey. Overall, a solid first season that made me fall in love with Taiwanese BLs.

As a plot critic, I found 'My Hero' creatively messy—the body-swap logic falls apart if you think about it too much. 'Obsessed' had a compelling setup but the 'fake engagement without communication' ending felt contrived. That said, 'Stay Away from Me' was a pleasant surprise with solid pacing and a believable stepsibling tension. It's an anthology worth watching for historical context, but don't expect polish.

The visual style across all three stories really impressed me for a 2017 production. 'Obsessed' especially uses lighting and framing to create a claustrophobic, intense atmosphere. The color grading shifts between stories—warm and cozy for 'Stay Away from Me,' cold and stark for 'Obsessed.' Not super high budget, but the directors knew how to maximize mood. I just wish the cinematography in 'My Hero' had been as sharp.

I appreciate that HIStory tried to tackle different relationship dynamics, but 'Obsessed' left a sour taste. The power imbalance and lack of clear consent are glossed over for dramatic effect, and the ending rewards toxic behavior. 'My Hero' also played with possession in a way that felt like it didn't fully respect the body's autonomy. I'd recommend this only if you're okay with problematic tropes and can view them critically.

This series is what got me into BL and I still rewatch it every year! 'Stay Away from Me' is my guilty pleasure—I love the stepbrother tension and the girlfriend who ships them. And 'Obsessed' still gives me chills. Sure, it's a bit rough around the edges, but the passion and heart are undeniable. Taiwanese BLs just have a special flavor, and HIStory is where it all began for me.
