In the tender Japanese BL *Depth of Field*, high schooler Hayakawa Shuichiro has shut himself off from his true passion—music—after a painful past incident. Numb and adrift, he seeks fleeting physical connections to fill the void, until a chance encounter on a rooftop overlooking the sea with his quiet, camera-obsessed classmate Konno Ryohei changes everything. Through Konno's lens, Hayakawa begins to see himself and his world in a new light, slowly rediscovering the melody he thought he'd lost. This atmospheric, slow-burn romance uses photography and music as powerful metaphors for healing, perspective, and being truly seen. With breathtaking cinematography and a deeply nuanced portrayal of emotional recovery, *Depth of Field* is a poignant coming-of-age story about learning to focus on what matters most.

I am absolutely wrecked in the best way. Hayakawa and Konno's connection is so soft and real—the way Konno just *sees* him without trying to fix him? That's the kind of love I want. The rooftop scenes are pure poetry, and that ending made me cry happy tears. Yes, it's short, but every minute is precious.

Started strong with an interesting damaged lead, but episode 3 lost me completely. The non-consensual kissing is brushed aside with a simple apology, and the rushed time jump feels like a cop-out. The cinematography is beautiful, but good visuals don't excuse poor handling of serious issues. Forgettable overall.

This is a masterclass in visual storytelling. Every shot is composed with such care—the use of shallow depth of field mirrors the theme so cleverly, and the color grading shifts from cold blues to warm golds as Hayakawa heals. The rooftop scenes are some of the most beautiful I've seen in any BL. A feast for the eyes.

I appreciate that the drama tries to tackle trauma, but it fails to properly address the sexual assault in episode 3. Hayakawa forces himself on Konno, then later kisses him without consent again, and it's barely discussed. For a story about healing, this sends a troubling message about accountability. The acting is good, but the script let me down.

As a fan of the manga *Hishakai Shindo*, I was excited but ultimately left wanting. The drama keeps the core emotional beats but adds unnecessary drama (the 'Konno goes abroad' plot isn't in the source) and cuts the post-confession development short. The actors are well-cast, especially Hirano as Konno, but the pacing feels off. An okay adaptation, not great.
