Dive into the emotionally charged world of *Between Us*, a slow-burn romance that swims beneath the surface of trauma and unspoken longing. This 2022 Thai series follows Win, a charismatic and protective university senior, and Team, a gifted but anxiety-ridden freshman swimmer haunted by a childhood tragedy. When Win discovers that Team's paralyzing fear during competitions stems from buried guilt and post-traumatic stress, he becomes determined to help him heal—one late-night swim, one comforting meal, one unlocked door at a time. What begins as a tentative friends-with-benefits arrangement soon deepens into a profound exploration of consent, vulnerability, and the courage to love despite fear. Unlike its predecessor *Until We Meet Again*, which intertwined reincarnation and mystery, *Between Us* strips away the supernatural to focus squarely on raw human emotion, mental health, and the intricate dance of two people afraid to claim happiness. With stunning cinematography, a haunting soundtrack, and a sprawling cast of side couples (including an adorable gamer romance and a sweet actor-boyfriend story), this series offers a realistic, sometimes frustrating, but ultimately rewarding journey of self-acceptance and healing. Whether you're a fan of the original novel *Hemp Rope* or new to the universe, *Between Us* is a must-watch for anyone who loves relationship-driven dramas that aren’t afraid to get real.

I have been waiting for WinTeam’s full story for years, and *Between Us* delivered everything I dreamed of. The chemistry between Boun and Prem is electric—every glance, every touch, every whispered 'Hia' gave me butterflies. Yes, it’s slow, but that’s exactly what makes it feel so real. I loved how they explored Team’s trauma and Win’s fear of owning happiness. The consent in this show should be taught in schools. And the side couples? Bee and Prince stole my heart! If you’re a romantic at heart, don’t listen to the haters—this is a masterpiece.

I wanted to love this, but the pacing killed it for me. Win and Team’s relationship goes in circles for 11 episodes—how many times can we watch the same nightmare flashback? I get that trauma isn’t linear, but the script felt padded to fill 12 episodes. The side couples, especially Tul and Waan, were more interesting but got so little screen time. And Team’s infantilization was uncomfortable; he acts like a child, not a grown man. That said, the acting is solid, and the dialogue about consent is genuinely progressive. It’s not bad, but it’s not the masterpiece fans claim.

The music in *Between Us* is a character of its own. They brought back the iconic themes from *Until We Meet Again*—which instantly made me emotional—and added new tracks that perfectly capture the longing and healing. The score during Team’s nightmares is hauntingly beautiful, and the romantic montages are elevated by these sweeping melodies. I also love how they use silence in key scenes to let the emotions breathe. If you’re a music nerd like me, pay close attention to the piano motifs—they tell the story almost as much as the dialogue.

Finally, a BL that takes consent seriously! From the first kiss to the intimate scenes, Win constantly checks in with Team—'Is this okay?' 'Do you want to stop?' It’s a breath of fresh air. The show also addresses homophobia and the pressure on actors to hide their relationships, which adds real-world weight. My only critique is the power imbalance; Win’s parental protectiveness over Team sometimes blurs into unhealthy territory. But overall, this is a step forward for the genre. I hope future shows learn from *Between Us*.

As a huge fan of the novel *Hemp Rope*, I was nervous about the adaptation, but I’m thrilled with how faithful it is. The iconic lines, the emotional beats, even the little details like the broccoli scene—all there! Boun and Prem embodied Win and Team exactly as I imagined. Yes, they added side couples and some changes, but the core story of trauma, guilt, and healing remains intact. The only thing I wished they kept was the novel’s rawer edge in certain emotional scenes. Still, for a novel fan, this is a dream come true.

I honestly watched *Between Us* for the side couples, and they didn’t disappoint—mostly. Tul and Waan’s gamer romance was adorable and refreshingly different; I loved their will-they-won’t-they tension. Bee and Prince had a sweet, grounded story about dating an actor. But they got so little screen time! I felt like the main couple dragged on forever while the side couples were rushed. Also, A and Sea were terrible friends—they constantly mocked Bee, and it wasn’t funny. If the show had trimmed Win/Team and given more space to the others, it would have been perfect.

Visually, *Between Us* is stunning. The cinematography is dreamy—soft lighting, beautiful beach scenes, and intimate close-ups that capture every flicker of emotion. The pool sequences are especially well shot, with reflections and water motifs mirroring Team’s inner turmoil. However, the editing lets it down. Some scenes linger too long, and the flashbacks are overused to the point of diminishing impact. The color grading is warm and inviting, which contrasts nicely with the heavy themes. If only the script matched the visual ambition.

I came here after hearing about the swim team setting, expecting some competitive sports drama. Nope. This is 90% crying, 10% swimming, and 0% action. The swim meets are barely shown, and when they are, they’re just background filler. If you want actual stakes or adrenaline, look elsewhere. The repetitive angst and slow-motion longing shots drove me crazy. I get that it’s a romance, but at least *Until We Meet Again* had a mystery plot to keep things moving. This is just two guys staring at each other for twelve episodes.
