Heart Stain is a tender South Korean coming-of-age romance that captures the bittersweet chaos of first love and self-discovery. U Hyeon is a high school student silently grappling with a crush on his homeroom teacher—a secret he's determined to keep buried until graduation. But when his best friend, Park Do Ha, accidentally discovers the truth, U Hyeon braces for judgment. Instead, Do Ha surprises him with a confession of his own feelings and a bold proposal: they should date until graduation, hoping U Hyeon can move on from his impossible crush. What starts as a pact soon blossoms into something neither expected, as U Hyeon slowly realizes that the love he was searching for might have been right beside him all along. With a warm, nostalgic tone and a focus on youthful angst, supportive friendships, and the gentle awkwardness of first love, Heart Stain delivers a heartfelt journey about letting go of fantasies and embracing real, messy emotions.

I adored the shy hand-holding and the way Do Ha looked at U Hyeon—pure heart-fluttering material! Yes, the pacing is slow and the teacher subplot feels weird, but the main couple's journey from friends to lovers melted me. Their height difference is the cutest thing ever.

The premise had potential, but the execution is a mess. U Hyeon's switch from teacher crush to Do Ha feels forced—the script just tells us he's in love without any believable build-up. The time jump and LDR ending are lazy. I never felt invested.

The OST is the real star here—'Mirror' and 'Moon Dream' are on constant repeat. Those songs perfectly underscore the emotional beats and elevate even the weaker scenes. Without the music, this would be a 5/10 for me.

I appreciate that the show addresses internalized homophobia, but the teacher-student dynamic is problematic. Mr. Nam touches U Hyeon too much and invites him to a café—it blurs boundaries and sends a confusing message. The main romance is sweet, but the power imbalance isn't handled well.

The soft pastel color grading and cozy framing make Heart Stain visually comforting, even when the story drags. I loved the intimate close-ups during emotional conversations. A few scenes could have used better lighting, but overall it’s easy on the eyes.
